MOD POST ↠ JUNE UPDATES

MOD ANNOUNCEMENTS: JUNE

OOC & ADMINISTRATIVE UPDATES

Upcoming OOC dates:

  • Native Applications: Open indefinitely
  • Rifter Applications: June 15, then open indefinitely
  • TDM: Here; new one in July!
  • Next Deadline for IC Leadership Applications: June 30

Please make sure you add any player plots with plot impact/wide relevance to our Calendar so everyone knows when stuff is happening!

    Rifter App Changes

Since rifter applications have slowed down to a point that handling them is less time-consuming and we don't need to schedule everything else around it, we've decided to open them all the time, just like native applications, beginning June 15. Rather than an arrival log, we'll provide newly-accepted rifters with a link to an arrival info page that will include the information they need to set up their own intro logs (or skip them entirely, if they'd prefer).

Get in Losers, We're Making a Wiki

Fade Rift is three and a half years old, and there's a lot of information—past events and player plots, recovered artifacts, player-invented locations and NPCs, previous IC news, and on and on—that's difficult for everyone to find and to keep up with, and since we need to revise and reorganize a lot of information anyway now that we're no longer the Inquisition, we've taken the plunge and created a wiki. Old school, we know. But we think plotting, collaborating, and expanding on the world will be a lot easier if everyone has a one-stop shop for information that's actually searchable, so we're doing it. Be there or be square.

Everything is obviously still under construction, but at this juncture we encourage everyone to create pages for their characters and add any notable previous player plots or missions you've been part of to the Timeline. Go-getters can also contribute to the project and division pages, create pages for any locations you've invented or canon locations you've expanded on, and list or create separate pages for any artifacts or objects your characters have recovered that need to be kept up with.

If you're interested in helping with the main info pages (timeline, new player guides, etc.) or generally in helping flesh stuff out and/or letting us give you specific things to do, let us know, and we'll cry with gratitude and bless your name and then give you some more direction.

Contributing to the wiki will require joining it, which you can do with the Join button on the site and a secret password. We've put that password on the player contact list pagee so game members can find it easily! Once in there you'll want to head to the Create New Page link on the right side, which will tell you how to make a character page or other type of page.

If you run into problems or questions, please feel free to ask! We're happy to help sort things out as people learn the ropes. And don't worry too much about breaking things. We've locked away the most site-critical stuff and changes can always be reverted, so it's not a big deal at all if you mess something up.

The nature of wikis means anyone can add anything to anything, but please keep in mind the following:

First, obviously don't mess with other people's character pages without permission.

Second, remember our rules for player-created "world canon." You can't invent new countries, new major religions, or widespread cultural norms—for example, you can't personally decide that Orlesians only eat with spoons and consider forks and knives barbaric, since every Orlesian character would then have to know about that and either play along or be a weirdo for using a fork. But you can decide that the little village you invented for your character to be from only uses spoons, since that would only affect you, or invent card games or sports that are popular but not so widespread that people would have to be stupid to not know what they are.

Additionally, any player-created canon will need to be plausible and not contradict what we already know about the world. You can't create an NPC Duke who's been an elf all this time or a city in Ferelden where mages have lived free and openly for a thousand years while no one cared or put a stop to it. But saying that someone somewhere tried to allow an elven Duke or free mages a few hundred years ago, and it resulted in riots and temporary martial law or something, might be okay.

We may go through and make changes if people add things that don't follow those rules. We, and probably other people helping us out as well, will also be constantly reorganizing and rewording additions to keep things uniform and so on—so please never take it personally if you add something and it gets moved or rephrased. The whole thing is very much a work-in-progress, so there will be lots of shifting around as we figure out how best to organize things.

    IC & PLOT UPDATES

    Riftwatch

By popular demand, the new organization our characters have been formed has been dubbed Riftwatch! Please pardon our dust while we clean up info pages to make sure they refer to Riftwatch rather than the Inquisition in all of the necessary places. If anyone is interested in designing a new logo please let us know.

    The Arbor Wilds

Also by popular demand, our next major mod plot will be an expedition to the Arbor Wilds. This will be something that comes up unexpectedly in July/Solace, rather than something planned months in advance, so characters will not be aware of this right now or need to be preparing for it. But a few mini-plots that lead up to the expedition will be disseminated through projects/divisions starting later this month, so keep an eye out.

    In The Meantime

While everyone is unaware that they'll soon be needed in the jungle, the war trundles forward, and everyone is welcome and encouraged to use it as a backdrop for threads. As long as something is day-to-day work that won't have an impact so significant that we or other players need to take it into account going forward, like a trim instead of a total hairstyle change, you don't need to submit plot proposals to travel to the front to deliver or acquire something vaguely important, skirmish with the enemy along border regions or where they're attempting to infiltrate deeper into friendly countries, meet with minor nobles or merchants to shore up support to make deals, etc.

You're also, obviously, welcome to submit plot proposals for things with a bigger impact. Other than the priorities different project and divisions are working on already, here are a couple of plot threads we encourage people to pull on:

  • The winter storm that helped the enemy forces fortify their position after the Battle of Ghislain has some echoes of what happened in Emprise du Lion, which remains frozen to this day. Investigating the cause of that further—and maybe thawing out the village—might help prevent whatever this is being used against the good guys again in the future.
  • Nevarra continues to teeter on the edge of a civil war, despite everything, and this is likely the last month we can stretch that out and allow for anyone to try to intervene before it turns into an outright conflict. So if you're interested in your character getting involved there, now's the time.

If you're interested in these but need more information or don't know where to start, feel free to put in an info request! (Disclaimer: we don't have pre-built plots for these things, so we won't write one for anyone. For example, we can tell you the ultimate cause of the weather issues if you propose to go find out, but we won't tell you "talk to NPC A, who will give you information X, and then travel to point B, where character will encounter fun obstacle Y." All of that will be up to you.)

    IC Leadership Changes

The following new IC leaders have been appointed effective immediately:

  • Adalia Ennaris: Head Archivist
  • Alexandrie de la Fontaine: Leader for Project Jeshavis
  • Nathaniel Howe: Assistant Leader for Project Haven
  • Steve Rogers: Captain of the Watch

The next round of IC leadership applications are due June 30. You can check the spreadsheet for current openings. The application forms can be found and submitted on the Leadership page
