Notable Dates
We’re making a new Calendar for 9:46 (!!!) that should replace the old one in the navigation shortly, but while we do that, please make sure you add war table assignments and any player plots with plot impact/wide relevance from last year to our 9:45 Calendar so everyone knows when things happened!
App Changes
Apps are open again! And we have a new app page, with one significant change: applications must now be posted as comments rather than linked. (This is just because we rely heavily on being able to search our mod gmail archive for things we need to reference later, so having the text of apps be searchable there will help us a lot.)
We’ve also made some changes to cast caps and limits on certain character types, which can be reviewed on the Rules page. Highlights include relaxed limits on native elves and apostates and a total ban on characters from, or in any way related to, Cats.
Reminder: Plot Reports
As a reminder, in November we put up a new info page for plot reports! This page explains the process a bit more for newcomers and is also a place for "secret" reports on things that your characters wouldn't formally tell Riftwatch about IC but that we might need to know about as mods. So if your characters secretly start a civil war somewhere or send all of Riftwatch’s rifter information to Corypheus through Fantasy FedEx, let us know there.
Non-secret reports should continue to go on
therookery, as usual, using the existing form. And this is just for reports; plot and info requests still go in the same place as before.IC & PLOT UPDATES
Nothing happened in December because it didn't exist. Time more or less stopped at the end of November, and now it's starting again. Just go with it. (We're roughly 50% joking.)
Old War Table Missions
Just a reminder to please submit a report for your past war table assignment on
therookery if you haven't already. If there are threads in progress but you still need more time, please let us know by replying to the original assignment comment with a request for an extension. If you haven't made progress and would prefer to put the plot back on the shelf for someone else to do in the future, please let us know that, as well. The only thing that isn't fine is not saying anything at all, since that means we remain indefinitely unsure as to whether something happened IC or not, which leads to future confusion.January Plot & Meme
This is Month 1 of the three-month cycle, so there will be a small-scope mod event posted later this month! The January plot will involve Riftwatch dealing with some issues in the Vinmark Mountains* north of Kirkwall at the request of Viscount Bran, including a few specific issues such as snow monsters and feuding locals, all while navigating some winter weather difficulties (in other words: game-canon body heat memes for everyone) at the same time. PCs will be able to travel back and forth to the Gallows or remain at a temporary base of operations in the mountains so you can choose how much to participate. (The work involved in this plot will ICly be on top of PCs' regular anti-Corypheus workload, not replacing it, so regular activities and player plots can proceed as usual, and no one should OOCly be concerned that the bad guys will win while you're RPing being stuck in a cave.)
Conversations on the Party Banter Meme can take place during the course of this work in the Vinmarks and will provide some related info/prompts in case you'd like your character to complain (or rejoice!) about the cold and so on, though of course you're also welcome to set your conversations elsewhere.
February will be Month 2 and focused on war table missions and player plots, while March will have our next major mod plot events. We'll provide more information about the mod plot next month, and we'll alert everyone to sign up for war table assignments as they become available! (Project leader and division head players are welcome to submit these at any time using the new form on the plot request page, but we'll also check in with you in a couple of weeks to see if we can assist you with refining/finalizing your ideas.)
*We know the name is actually Vimmark, but frankly we've spent so long now thinking it was Vinmark that it's too late to go back. And isn't Vinmark a better name anyway? So in this universe that's what it is. It's like Fade Rift's Mandela Effect.
