An attack of the outskirts of Pessac was a surprise, and Dorian & Nell happened to be the nearest available mages who could be sicced after the escaping Venatori and their kidnapped captive. Tracking them will be easy even for these non-scouts, maybe too easy. Deal with an ambush by a larger group of enemies (whether by figuring it out or falling into it) and get the captive home safely.
