Our goal was definitely to create a situation in which those sorts of alternatives are not available and your characters are forced to choose between the two shitty options presented. (We did, after all, promise moral dilemmas in the sign-up blurb.) So you should feel free to assume the existence of whatever sorts of obstacles make it feel plausible to you that your characters have been backed into this corner, whether that's overwhelming numbers, lack of intel, some sort of time pressure, etc.
But that said, if it's going to totally ruin everyone's fun to not be able to find a way around the problem, then go ahead and circumvent to your hearts' content.
