OOC Plotting: Rift-closing player log

But as I mentioned on the CR meme, I'm putting together a log to help facilitate some personal character advancement while throwing in fighting some demons and closing a rift at some point this month, and rather than try and hash everything out on Plurk I'm putting things up here to finish getting things plotted out.

The idea is that a small-ish group of people are sent on a supplies-gathering mission with an eye on possibly getting some rare herbs along the way. Along the way they'll wind up wandering across an active rift and have to see about getting it closed, but the fight won't go so well for one person (spoilers: it's Jamie) and that will trigger a reaction from someone else (more spoilers: that's Kallian) that will effectively out her as a mage.

Tentatively this will be in the Hinterlands, for a few reasons, but if people would like to go elsewhere to do this or if we need to place it somewhere else then suggestions are more than welcome. Travel to and from Skyhold will be difficult around the middle of the month, as well, so that's something to keep in mind when figuring out when we'd ICly like to go.

Currently this group is Jamie, Kallian, Adelaide, Hermione, Ruby, Eirlys and Merrick with an appearance by Anders and Norrington later on. I've also gotten some possible interest from one or two non-rifters to come along and help fight demons, so if we've talked about it and you're still interested please say so below. I do have one more slot for a rifter or a shardbearer to come along, if anyone is interested and didn't see this earlier, but at this time I have to ask that it be limited to either a rifter, a shardbearer or someone who has had a shard approved OOCly but needs a chance to get one.

I'll keep the slot open until 11:59 PM ET on April 9th, which should hopefully give people enough time to see this, and if people can give me an idea of when they'd like to go both ICly and OOCly before then I'd appreciate it.

I'm excited, also Anders will be easily avoidable as he'll be off to the side finding Kallian and being a comforting shoulder, rather than at the rift itself fighting stuff!

I'm pretty flexible, but ideally, I think it would be best to have it take place before the illness event, since Kalli will feel freer to use her abilities to help the rest of Skyhold.

I'm game with earlier too, but I'm wondering if a good plan might be to do something set near to the beginning to the month. Possibly slightly backdated, to give Kalli a couple of days after the incident but before the mid-month event so she doesn't have to go back right away and get immediately thrust into the middle of what's going on there. What do you think?

I still plan on having Jamie call on the crystal to give him a heads up, but out of curiosity, would being in the Hinterlands work for that, in this case?

Kallian's player has suggested something earlier in the month, which could work for getting people there and back before the weather/illness event in Skyhold, and give her a chance to have at least a couple of days OOCly to freak out about being outed, so how's that sound?

Sure! There can easily be a reason for Anders to be in the Hinterlands nearby, gathering herbs or maybe someone was hoping he'd get eaten by a bear or something, and Jamie could know this.

That sounds great to me :]b the early part of the month may involve some continued jetlag recovery and a couple of slow stretches for me due to family stuff but nothing that should hold up the quest so I think it's all good.

Personally I'd be good with it, but since a good chunk of this thread'll revolve around Kallian being revealed to be a mage, I'd really like to hear what people would like for this first? I know that the plan is for Jamie to get hurt enough that she needs to react as a mage, and then after she's going to take off and Anders will step in to help calm her down.

But since it is her reveal, having it be in front of a templar could be a fairly big deal so i think that part of things needs to have her input first.

From an IC perspective, a Templar presence would actually keep Kalli from bolting away from the group. Because nothing says "death wish" like messing up and then trying to flee from it. Especially with Norrington's issues with blood mages. Not that Kalli will be using any, but, well, fuel on the fire.

But, if Norrington (with or without other templars) happens to be nearby and comes over to see what the commotion is about, Kalli would probably offer herself up to whatever mercy he had upon being brought back to the group.

I would like to say that Norrington will be utterly floored, but since she's throwing herself on his mercy -- well he has an example and rules to follow, so he will act honorably for someone who has basically asked for sanctuary.

Out of curiosity, how would that affect things with Anders, though? If she doesn't bolt and Norrington offers her sanctuary, then would there even be the chance for him to get in touch with her to talk about it? Or would there even be the urgency to contact him? That seems to me like it could change that part of things substantially.

Okay, I've gotten an idea as to why Jamie would still contact Anders! But I'm thinking in this case if it's Norrington going it might make more sense for him to be in the area elsewhere and then get drawn over for the end of the fight and the reveal/fallout. Would that work for you?

/is so late, but yes, I'm definitely flexible as to when things happen and what precisely goes down insofar as Hermione's concerned, especially since she would want to prevent Jamie from getting hurt but could also be holding back because her magic still isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I think we can fit her in as the last non-rifter going along with the party, if you don't mind having her fight demons with the others! Herbalists going along would definitely work here.

So far we've had a request for closer to the start of the month so people are back for the event mid-month, so unless there's a strong push for later on it'll likely be set then and the log slightly backdated to allow for that. In terms of the actual fight it is totally up to you what you'd like to have Hermione doing fighting-wise, although we'll need her and Ruby and Jamie to get the rift actually closed, so there'll be that to deal with too. But that means she can hold back because she's not sure about her magic or be distracted by the green light shooting out of her hand or another demon trying to eat her face or something of that sort, so there's lots of possibilities there to play with.

That would be great! It's actually going to be the first time she'll have encountered demons since Haven and she's terrified of them so this will be a good test for her.

I'm planning on splitting the log up into smaller and (hopefully) more manageable bits, if that helps any, but no worries if things are a bit slow on your end. Backtagging is always welcome when it comes to anything I do, believe me.

She's probably not going to hold back for long, especially once Jamie actually gets hurt. She'll still be reserved in what sort of magic she's using, but shield charms would definitely be a go, especially if Kallian's tending to Jamie before the demons are defeated and she needs someone to have her back. Basically, she is here to take care of everybody as well as she can before they can get that rift closed.

Right now the plan for that is for him to get hurt during the second wave, but still be conscious and able to help close the rift, so shield charms would definitely be useful once things get to that point!

Does Norrington get to fight demons still?

I don't see why not? Even if he's not part of the supply group to start he could be in the area investigating something and then notice people are fighting demons so he goes to help.
