Who They Are: Vandelin is an elven enchanter from the Circle of Hasmal. He specializes in the creepy spells.
Where They've Been: Hasmal, initially, and then Cumberland, and then caught up in various conflicts during the Mage-Templar War.
What They Want: Mostly just to help further the mage freedom cause by earning some goodwill with the Inquisition.
Plot & CR Desires: I'm down for anything! Pro-freedom mages to be buddies with, mages who don't agree with him to be fake-smiling frenemies with, templars to argue with, anyone and everyone in between. Other elves are awesome, and people who have not spent their formative years in Circles are fascinating. He is outwardly a very sociable guy.
Anything Else: I just want an excuse to describe a spell like Waking Nightmare in RP, okay

(but really, Van is a pretty nice dude most of the time and he wants to be your tiny, scary friend.)

yesss sounds good. and yeah! she's hella pro-freedom, obvs, and sort of excited about all of these mages being around, doing stuff. occasional wariness of extremism less "that's bad" and more "make sure your cause isn't being hijacked by people who will definitely get you all killed" because she's. you know. got some experience.

Petrana may wind up being the only thing that does keep this wee little idiot from getting himself/other mages killed for that reason, because he's not so great at the self-preservation thing on his own. please save him from himself, Petra.

I can't wait to have Inessa meet him, honestly. Fellow former alienage elf raised in the Circle? Hell yes, bring it on. She's recently acquired the Necromancer specialization and has a talent for entropy spells, so they have that in common too. As for mage freedom, it'll be an interesting debate if they get to it. She's a former Aequitarian, only not one now because she joined the Grey Wardens instead of the mage rebellion.

Van + Wren would be a beautiful mess of incorrect assumptions all around, Alan would probably be his favorite new person in Kirkwall, and Melys...poor Melys doesn't deserve to have two of my mages nursing a grudge against her, but damn if it wouldn't be fun anyway.

This is perfect! I would love for them to talk shop about magic, and also about their different fraternities. (Van is also a former Aequitarian, except that the "former" part is because he ditched them for the Libertarians after a year.) Plus, yes, similar alienage backgrounds.

He's never met a Warden before, either, and will think it is the coolest.

this is probably literally like the third time in his life that Vandelin has ever been taller than anyone. children and dwarves included. just for that, he will listen to whatever Petra says.

And ahahaha, just reading about his Harrowing and that's another awesome similarity. Inessa's main pitfall in hers was a pride demon, and she still worries about how easily it could be to succumb to one.

I think he would be! He's probably never had much contact with them, but who doesn't like dogs, amirite.

That is awesome! (I mean, not for Inessa, obviously, but you know.) It would be interesting to see how they might have reacted differently to it. Vandelin was more cautious for a while afterward, but it's been 13 years since his Harrowing, so it's not exactly fresh in his mind anymore and he's gotten reckless again.

Velanna might hate him if he's sociable but she is an entropy magic major and also Dalish and tiny and scary so they may get along.

Oh awesome! Yeah, I can see how his chipper attitude might not go over so well at first, but since they've got other things in common, I could definitely see them getting along okay after a bit.
