Hideously belated thanks to real life deciding to kick the legs out from under me as those of you on plurk are aware but before I come back from hiatus, I wanted to check in regarding a few elven research related matters as pertains to Morrigan! So last month Morrigan took a team to go retrieve her eluvian from the hands of Venatori and Red Templars and there is an official rumour posting about it here. Given that scouts will talk, that Morrigan was in something of a state prior to retrieving it, and that the eluvian itself isn't really a small item to get to and install in a room just off the gardens, I'm sure it's been a topic of gossip. In her return log I will have a starter and I'd like to apologise again for how belated this is but real life happened and I really just had to let it happen.

That said, it brings me to my next topic: since she's officially Celene's arcane advisor and working for the Inquisition in much the same capacity, I was hoping I could find out and keep in the loop in some sort of basis on what is and isn't 'public domain' re: any elven/elven-related discoveries/lore-related/magic etc stuff that comes up. This is mainly so I don't step on any toes when I'm writing about what she's working on at points within the Inquisition and it can get tricky trying to keep up with everyone's plots at points.

And (this is getting long, I'm sorry) I'd also like to offer up some slots on some sort of basis for your character to work with Morrigan on one of her research projects, of which she has two:

• ancient, lost, forbidden, elven magic; this would primarily be offered to elves or to natives but Tolkien characters or elves from other worlds would be welcome
• dragons and rifters; this is a joint venture with Leliana that Morrigan is quite interested in and it's more theoretical at this point but she's interested in finding out about dragons from the worlds the rifters come from and how they translate to Thedas and similar topics

If anyone is interested in any of this, don't hesitate to let me know, I'll be back from hiatus on May 1st for IC things (so if you'd like to request talking to her about any of the topics mentioned in this, here is the place to do it, she'll have open starters but feel free to request a closed thing as well!)

I am all about Ellana helping with research on elven stuff! Her plans after the Inquisition are to go exploring, looking for elven ruins so she can write about them and get that published (with Varric's help, because how else will an elf get published?) so elves can have a good source of information not laced with humans rewriting history to make elves look bad. So all this is helping set her on that path.

if it wouldn't be vaguely Too Much and gently palyercesty then I would also offer Ruby in a rifter/dragon chats capacity, either speaking for herself or relaying info from Emma (bc fought the dragon etc) OR just hanging and helping because she likes Morrigan.

honestly I've been afraid to start anything myself re: elf-things even though elf-things and eluvians are Merrill's thing so I have no idea on what's Open there

Once Velanna stops spitting and hissing about a shemlen touching nice elven things she'd probably help with the research and the ancient magic. She might have Issues with teaching any of her Keeper magic but she might be swayed long-term.

I haven't really done anything significant as far as elfy things she's uncovered, I assume she's got a lot of stories that she's been transcribing which again good luck getting her to let you look in her diary.

If Hermione hears about this research (likely from Leliana, probably), she'll definitely offer up what she knows about dragons. She knows plenty about dragons. She's even ridden one, though she'll be really happy to never ever ever do that again, thanks.

Katniss ... now definitely wants to know all the elven things that she can. If Morrigan needs an agent in the field? Katniss will volunteer in exchange for lessons.

thranduil could care less about dragons BUT ancient elves, sign him up. he might be inclined to hoard most of the info he learns, but he'd be pleased with morrigan if she facilitated him with access to elvhen tech and info.

Late! But Pel would definitely work with Morrigan on arcane magic, especially with regards to Veilfire runes.

Sina obvs can't do a lot of fieldwork, but one of her pet projects has been the translating of runes and cross-referencing with other languages. She really only speaks Common and what little Elvhen they've got, but has had a LOT of time to sit around and try to teach herself otherwise, so she's got a rudimentary understanding of Tevene and what little Orlesian she's picked up since arriving at Skyhold.

She's also super interested in how the shards interact with elven artifacts, and would potentially volunteer herself as a test subject as long as they have healers/rifters nearby to deal with any fallout.

Also seconding Velanna's hesitance to teach any kind of Keeper magic, since that is sacred and secret and not for shem'len sorry
