+ 1 Faithful Chantry Boy
Ladies and gents, this is Wren with her second character, Knight Commander James Norrington, fresh from his Thedas-wide tour of, 'find the rebel mage who killed the First Enchanter of Ostick and the former Knight Commander. He is a notorious blood mage hunter (dun dun duuuuun) who has recently gained the nickname, 'Hang 'Em High' Norrington, for executing rogue Templars for their crimes.
He is coming to the Inquisition to join the true Chantry, and to help rebuild the Templar Order for what it used to stand for, protecting people from the dangers of magic, and protecting magic from the dangers of the normal world as well. With him, he's bringing 7 NPC Templars with names I am putting in here so I remember them forever.
- Knight Lieutenant Gillette, Orlaisian, red-headed, snarky, looks a little like a ferret.
- Knight Lieutenant Burns, Fereldan, dark haired, jovial flirt.
- Templar Knight Anamaria, dark haired, Nevarran, will gut you if you touch her bottom.
- Templar Knight Giselle, Orlaisian, blonde haired, better flirt than Burns.
- Templar Knight Murtogg, sort of bumbly, built like a brick house Templar.
- Templar Knight Mullory, thin as a whip, philosophical sort of fellow.
- Former Knight Captain Gibbs, Healer, drunk, loves to tell tall tales.
If you want to use any of them for Purposes, just let me know! Also plotting ideas and the rest? Drop them here or hit me up on Plurk at OneStarkWren.

Also I had this mad image of the Templars hugging Sam and Sam being like UGH templars I like stop and then half the Inquisition drawing weapons because they don't know what's happening ...

Which of the Templars would Sam know?

I take it Norrington might have been one of the Templars at his Harrowing?
Man this just pushes why Sam is pretty neutral about mages/templars.

So Sam, you had Norrington coaching you on the good Harrowings he had been at - what tricks they used, etc.

Question. Norrington is obviously pro-Chantry. Is he pro Harrowings and such?

Norrington's family was killed by blood mages - so he believes that mages should be trained in a Circle, not just to learn how to use their powers but when to use them, and how. He believes the Chantry builds a good foundation for both templars and mages, that if they follow it, will teach them how to use their gifts for the best of humanity. Thank you, First Enchanter.
To that end, he sees the Harrowings like the Templar's Vigil -- but he doesn't like torturing young people. He doesn't think you should be in your teens, or even in your twenties. Mages aren't taught to withstand physical pain, and it's often the demon hurting them that makes them submit. He would like to see mages properly trained WELL before they are even considered 'ready' for a Harrowing.

Sam agrees on needing a place to learn and train magic, but he doesn't believe it should be forced. Letting mages come and go like a regular school would be a healthier environment (huh guess I'm talking like Hogwarts, where they stay at school, then return home kind of thing).
And Sam just doesn't think Harrowing are necessary. More abominations seem to happen more with Circle mages probably due to how they live. And honestly it's more temptation then pain that has mages submitting. Either way common folk aren't taught any of this and they're just as likely to get possessed; the only reason why people care about mages more is because it's an obvious possession that can/does hurt others.
Hm, btw. Before there wasn't anyone else from Ostwick circle to bounce ideas off of so I kept it like other Circles where Mages didn't have contact with anyone outside.

Well that sounds ... reasonable. What sort of protections are they going to be looking at for those who cannot control their powers? Also would it be wise to start educating the common folk on how to to fight abominations? Sort of everyone should be prepared sort of thing.

He thinks they can both agree there needs to be more preparation and education.
no subject
Agreed. Which seems to be happening if I'm reading notes right

Then Norrington will be pleased, and will just ... meander back here to train the soldiers.

Sending out mages to do a job makes sense. That's how Sam ended up with the Inquisition after all. Went with a group to the Conclave, and didn't blow up.

I can see that. I can't see Norrington agreeing with it but I can see him upholding it. However, I can see some of his Templars sneaking out letters for people.

The name's Marquis and I play as Knight-Commander Alayre Sauveterre hailing from the Tower of Pharos. He arrived here to the Hold with fifteen strong Orlesian Templar hailing from his former Tower. Most likely Norrington's men will run into these men sooner or later but most of them stick to their native tongue out of spite for all things Fereldan. /snicker
I'm eager to have Sauveterre meet Norrington.

That is perfectly fine, at least two of Norrington's templars are from Orlais - transferred out because they didn't like it - and went to Ostwick. They can translate for the rest. Norrington knows Orlaisian and will most likely respond dryly in it if forced.
As am I!

They're jerks like that.
