MOD PLOT: HEART LIKE ICE
PLOT: HEART LIKE ICE
The Inquisition sent a small force from Skyhold into the Sunless Lands to scout the known Red Lyrium mining operation there and to collect the newly arrived rifters, but a few days before the rifters were expected, all contact with that team was lost. Despite the distance, a team from Kirkwall is being sent South to hopefully accomplish several things: find the missing Inquisition team (if it survived), locate the new rifters (if they survived), and handle the Red Lyrium operation once and for all. In the meantime they will have to survive the elements, snuggle, and save some polar bears. There is an OPEN LOG here with prompts. Get on it.
SUGGESTED PLAYER-LED PLOTS
Over the course of the event there will be a couple unanswered questions or more in-depth plot threads that are available for players to take on and lead as miniature player plots or closed logs with their CR. We'll provide a couple paragraphs' worth of information about the parameters and what characters will be able to find or accomplish, but the rest will be up to you. IC, your character will be the one leading the way—whether on purpose or by accident, depending on the situation and character—and will be responsible for reporting results to the correct project or division when all is settled.
Your options include:
A. Locating the missing Inquisition team
B. Infiltrating the Red Lyrium mine to lay traps and free prisoners ahead of the main assault
If you're interested in your character being tapped to lead either of those efforts, comment below by midnight on March 18. Note that these leadership opportunities are open only to characters who are members of an Inquisition Division.
SNOW CAVE PARTNERS
There is at least one opportunity in the open log for characters to have to stop, drop, and burrow to wait out a storm, potentially with whomever they're standing beside rather than who they'd prefer to get cozy with. You can choose your own snow cave partner(s), but if you would like to be matched with someone random, reply here by midnight on March 18.
NOTES
You're welcome and encouraged to use this post to post plotting comments and make plans. And as a final plot note, we strongly encourage people who want to participate but don't have a good reason for their characters to go along to just make one up. Remember that the Inquisition is, at its core, a military organization. Your character could just be ordered to go, whether they ICly like it or not!
The exception, obviously, is characters who are not actually members of the Inquisition. Because this plot involves sending characters into known environmental danger and likely into a fight, characters who are not members of the Inquisition (i.e. are not members of a division) will not be permitted to go along. Not openly, at least. They can always make their own way down there and pretend to have just happened upon the camp, but they will not have Inquisition assistance with travel or supplies.

Who: Thor + whoever he brings
Brief: Finding the missing Inquisition team can be either the result of a deliberate effort or a complete accident. Either way you want to play it, Thor and his team will eventually be able to sight a discarded broken snowshoe from a hilltop, and from there may be able to follow a trail of debris: a collapsed tent made of an Orlesian-style blanket, a chain attached to a broken shattered crystal, etc.
The trail will come to an end not far from a large hole in the ice, where the team ultimately fell through into an unseen underground cavern carved out by a hot spring. One member of the missing team will be dead at the bottom, with two broken legs, half in the water and otherwise half frozen. Footsteps and discarded equipment will suggest other people were there as well.
If the team descends into the cavern (hopefully after anchoring a rope or something from above so they can get back out) and goes in search of the remaining members, they will eventually find them—also dead and mostly bones and accessories now, except for one woman who is only mostly dead and now possessed by a hunger demon. She's been feeding on the corpses of the others. She'll be powerful, capable of life and mana drain in addition to physical attacks, and she will do her damndest to turn the team into a buffet.
You can adapt the plot to any form, as long as it is RPed about in some manner: you can create a full-blown multipart plot, do a single log focused on the portion of the plot you find most interesting, or handwave the log and do a rookery post to discuss findings with the Inquisition at large. If you do play it out, you can make it more or less complicated as you see fit, adding obstacles or enemies, as long as you clear anything that would change the core nature of the plot or have larger implications with us in advance.
You should file a report with a relevant project or Division (in this case we would recommend Forces) as soon as possible but no later than April 30.
OOC Note: Since we were late getting these out, if you create a separate log for this plot, the threads can count for April AC for participants.

Who: Rey + whoever she brings
Brief: Rey and whoever she selects to assist her will be tasked with sneaking into the mine at night to get a good read on their numbers and fortifications (which can be reported back via crystal), set any possible traps or sabotage anything they come across if they can do so quietly, and sneak any civilians out of harm's way prior to the assault on the mine. Which aspects of that you want to play will be up to you, but all of the following are possible:

However, as noted in the post above, only characters who work for the Inquisition are being sent on this trip. Our understanding is that Elros does not, in which case he would not be sent along or invited to go, since the Inquisition is a military organization sending a team into known danger and would not include civilians or people outside the chain of command. If he would travel there of his own accord, with his own funds, then that's fine! But please account for that in your RP.
AND NOW WITH RIGHT CHARACTER...
