What They Want: To keep ahead of the bridges he’s burned (metaphorically and otherwise), to look out for himself and his remaining scruples, any dark secrets characters have lying around. No reason. Don't worry about it.

sure! he was transferred to ghislain about 15 years ago, so depending on how old she was when she came to the circle, their paths would’ve crossed only briefly. he wasn’t teaching while he was still at montsimmard, but he has an active interest in the Next Generation, so we could say they’d had an acquaintance.

in the war, he was primarily a medic, but he has some entropy spells up his sleeve that he doesn’t talk about that she could be aware of. he would’ve been pleasantly surprised (if at the time perpetually stressed) to find she remembered him at all. if she heard rumours about him at the time from other ghislain mages or ex-loyalists, they likely wouldn’t have been pleasant.

Yup! She would have been 13 when he was transferred out and she entered the Circle at 8. And during the war she was def in the back lines as a healer, really only firing spells at the Templars if they started to break the front line defense and push back towards the retreating injured.

Meh, she'd assume any Loyalists at the time were Making Shit Up™ because that's how she rolled at that time after the infighting. Basically if he hadn't been a total asshole while at Montsimmard, she'd probably assume he was an okay guy and not believe any rumors unless they came from fellow Aequitarians/Libertarians. Then she'd be a little worried.

he def wouldn't have been a total asshole around impressionable youth at montsimmard, he cares about the Youth, being a total asshole was reserved for his noble buddies at the time

and it's up to you, then! he independently pissed off some loyalists by deliberately throwing a few of them to the wolves, and prior to that sold out anyone it was convenient to in ghislain, most of whom were likely aequitarians or libertarians.

I'm sure it could get back to her that he pulled that stuff in Ghislain! It's hard to say what she'd think, really. A lot of the war she feels showed mages who were scared, mages who were doing their best, and then a bunch of mages who were at their worst and deserve punishment for it. I guess we'll have to see.

cr is inevitable since he knows kostos and gareth (how does he know gareth?), so i am open to ideas if you want them to have some past history of their own or to've just been ships passing in the night that meet now. or the middle-ground where they met during the war when he had to patch her up some (possibly unreasonable) number of times and can now have a like "oh, i remember you" moment or something. whatever!!!

he met gareth during the war shortly into the “feral child emerges from the woods covered in blood” stage and suggested that like….maybe….he could tone down the horror a little. maybe like 10% less blood boiling if someone looks at you funny. but hung around for a bit anyway because it seemed like a good idea for the local scary lunatic to be fond.

and because he has genuine concerns about baby mages, whatever, gross

i'm down for past history or ships passing or middle ground, i think he's unlikely to have gone full extremist cell, but could've kept passing occasional bits of info from wherever he was pretending to not be a mage or doing inquisition stuff. like you guys have fun fighting the good fight, i'll be way over there not being arrested, also here's some names. he should definitely have had to patch her up an unreasonable number of times no matter what we roll with. please nell. nell stop. please. he is so tired.
