MOD PLOT ↠ AS THE SUN ROSE

MOD PLOT: AS THE SUN ROSE

The overarching mod plot for this cycle will focus on the upcoming Grand Consensus, which will select a new Divine in Cloudreach. The candidates being considered by the Chantry, along with some biographical notes and other information about their sources of support, can be found in this spreadsheet.

The Inquisition's official, public stance is one of neutrality, because openly manipulating the outcome of the election would not win it any friends in the long run and would potentially make an enemy of the new Divine if she didn’t turn out to be their favored candidate.

Unofficially, the Inquisition's secret orders are to ensure that Grand Cleric Clorentine isn't selected—she's too broadly connected, too changeable, too easy to manipulate and thus too open to corruption. A candidate with firmer principles and a shrewder mind will be easier to work with to bring down Corypheus regardless of her politics.

Beyond that, Skyhold hasn't settled on any one particular candidate, and there are some gossipy whispers that this "neutrality" is really the result of disagreement between the advisors. Whatever its cause, what this means in practice is that there is some flexibility for individuals who want to influence the outcome of the Divine Election to do so, quietly, before a candidate is elected at the Grand Consensus at the end of Cloudreach (April). (Note that the spreadsheet info about advisor opinions is provided for color; none of them are ICly making their opinions public. But you can assume some gossip from Skyhold guessing at their favorites has made its way to Kirkwall.)

OOC, this arc will take place primarily through player plots and Inquisition missions. There will be a log in April that includes the announcement of the new Divine and some other stuff, but it will serve mostly as a capstone. Until that event in April, players can propose player plots that will directly determine the final result. Details below!

INQUISITION MISSIONS

When we dig into project- and division-based work later this month, some of that work will (we expect, unless the IC leaders refuse) focus on fulfilling the confidential goal of preventing Clorentine's election, and some might also underhandedly support or hurt other candidates. We'll all find out together!

PLAYER PLOTS

You can also propose your own plots to help or hinder a given candidate’s chances of selection. Exactly what your characters do is up to you—we want you to be able to use this to do the types of plots that you’re interested in RPing. You can propose a plot to blackmail an influential Chantry bureaucrat to support one of the candidates, make up the bureaucrat in question yourself, and make acquiring that blackmail require characters to seduce him. Or you can propose a plot to go to Val Royeaux in plainclothes and spread honest information, like an angel, about why one of the candidates is an amazing person. Or you can be more roundabout and propose a plot to distract one of the candidates’ sources of support from the election so they spend less time pressing for her selection. Or (last one) you can take something your character is already working on or pursuing for another plot reason and look for a way to tie it into the Divine election. And in all cases, you can focus on the parts of your plot that appeal to you most, use it to force characters to make choices that interest you, etc.

The caveat is that the Inquisition is not officially supporting or denouncing any of the candidates and needs to remain apparently neutral so as not to make an enemy of whoever is ultimately successful, so all plots will, to some extent, need to be a little shady and below-board. And aside from efforts to prevent Clorentine from winning, no one is going to have even secret approval from Skyhold to meddle. Everybody has to put their subtlety pants on and get ready to plausibly deny.

POINT VALUES

Any plots with these types of goals, whether they're official Inquisition work or PCs' extracurricular activities, will be assigned point values—either positive values when a plot is supporting a candidate, or negative ones when a plot is hampering a specific candidate. (You can also choose to divide points in half between two candidates, if you’re promoting or hurting two at once or want to promote one at another’s expense, but two is the limit.) High-influence plots will requiring rolling for success and proof that the plot was actually RPed for the points to count.

Some things will be obviously high or low impact. You can't submit a plot to persuade one elf in Starkhaven to like Grand Cleric Elise and say it's a high impact plot, for example, or submit one to manufacture proof that a candidate had a torrid affair and say it's low impact. But if something could plausibly be either low or medium, or either medium or high, you can choose which category you want it to fall into, and we'll discuss it with you if we think an idea needs to be re-categorized for some reason.

Low Impact: Plots to bring about minor gains, worth 15 points each (pre-modifier). There's no mandated chance of failure, and proof that the plot was RPed can come in any form, including inbox discussions occurring before or after the actual event/action.

Medium Impact: Plots for moderate gains, worth 30 points each (pre-modifier). You have to roll for success, with a ¼ chance of failure (so rolling a 1 out of 4, a 5 out of 20, etc. will count as failure), and the plot must be RPed about in some way somewhere on the network or log comms.

High Impact: Plots for significant gains, worth 60 points each (pre-modifier). You have to roll for success, with at least a ½ chance of failure. Failing the roll will result in an inverse effect—losing 15 points for the candidate if you wanted to help them, or gaining 15 points for the candidate if you wanted to hurt them. Successfully rolled plots must be RPed about directly for at least the length of an AC proof. That doesn't mean you have to log out actual diplomatic talks or the moment of blackmailing a cleric, but you do have have a log or a rookery post occurring adjacent to and directly concerning the plot, like discussing the diplomatic talks after the fact or sneaking around to acquire the blackmail.

And by modifier, we mean that the associated point values will be multiplied differently for each candidate, to represent the fact that some candidates are more widely palatable to normal Thedosians than others, and it will take more effort to secure the election of a candidate outside the mainstream than one well within it. The current modifiers are in the candidate list, but if we have way more or way fewer overall plots proposed than we expect, we may need to adjust them to make sure the race remains competitive enough that everyone's plot efforts matter.

Failed Rolls

If you choose a plot that requires rolling for success and fail the roll, you’re required to comply with the requirements for RPing the plot—so you have to post a log or something and actually tag it even though your characters don’t succeed—before you submit another plot. I.e., you can’t submit five plots one after the other and only RP/count the ones where your characters succeed. For plots where failing a roll has an inverse effect, not playing it won’t make those points go away, either.

That said, we think—and we hope you all agree—that RPing about failure is interesting and that keeping an element of unpredictability, rather than letting characters definitely get what they want whenever they try, is super fun. So if you fail a roll, or if the candidate you want to win ultimately doesn’t, try to look at it as an opportunity for cool storytelling instead of a video game death screen.

OTHER PLOT OPTIONS

We expect most ideas—or most ideas that are also realistic about the level of influence PCs can have without the Inquisition taking an official stance— will work with the above system, but we don't want to stifle anyone's creativity, so here are some other options, too.

Removing Candidates

Player plots that would realistically completely remove a candidate from the running—blackmailing them so much they withdraw from consideration, insurmountable scandal, assassination, etc.—must have at least five players involved, and at least three characters must be aware of the plan. The other two can be oblivious to the scheme if their players are OOCly okay with that and okay with the plot. This is to prevent one or two players from negating the effect of a bunch of other people's efforts in one fell swoop. These plots will also require rolling, generally with a 60-40 chance of failure but possibly higher depending on the proposal, and failing will have an inverse effect on a candidate's chances rather than no effect at all.

Changing Candidates' Stances

Player plots for "soft" gains, such as persuading a candidate to change their view on a topic or make promises to a certain group, will be handled on a case by case basis, since whether or not it's plausible and whether or not it will affect a candidate’s popularity across other demographics will vary so much. If you’re interested in doing a plot like that, let us know what you have in mind, and we’ll talk it out with you. In most cases these will also require a chance of failing, proportionate to how big of a change it is, and some changes may just be impossible. For instance, nobody can make Gertruda agree to abolish Circles, no matter how they approach it.

Other

We want people to be able to be creative and to have a real impact on who's ultimately chosen! So if you have an idea that doesn’t seem to fit into the options we’ve already addressed, let us know. But please keep in mind the other concerns we have to balance, like making sure that the decision isn't dominated by only a few players, making sure Thedas stays Thedas and doesn't turn into an unrecognizable fantasy utopia, etc., and temper your dreams accordingly!

DETAILS

Getting Your Points Counted

Once you've submitted a plot request, gotten approval (and a roll for your success/failure if necessary), and RPed about what your characters are doing, you can register the points we should count for you here. Remember to also submit reports for any official project or division work to the correct pages! But things your characters undertake in secret don't need to be reported, obviously, unless something official is used as cover for it.

We'll keep the spreadsheet updated with the current rankings of the candidates based on all of the plots that have been approved, but keep in mind that points will only really count once the plots have been completed and we've been notified of that. If half the people who have submitted plots to support one candidate ultimately don't register their points with us by the deadline, the rankings might not be reliable. We also won't share actual point totals until after the fact, so if someone is in the lead, it might be by 100 projected points or only by 5. This is to represent that while it may be possible to roughly gauge the mood of various groups and who currently has momentum, Thedas doesn't having fivethirtyeight to tell you who's up by how many points today.

Deadlines

Because the result of the election won't have a huge impact on how we write the final plot log (though it will have a huge impact on the world going forward), we'll accept plot reports up through the day before the log is posted, which we currently expect to be April 20. However, plot requests must be submitted by March 31 at the latest, so we have time to respond to them and you have time to actually play them. You can submit both plot requests and points over here.

Would getting one of the candidates to openly support a very heretical position (or manufacturing convincing proof of same) count as high-impact or total removal?

E.g. flatly Imperial Chantry beliefs (Andraste was only a mortal woman) or things that seriously diverge from Southern Chantry orthodoxy (Hessarian was maleficar because he lit Andraste's pyre with magic & consequently anything he did after was illegitimate).
I'm going to set this one aside for now!

Similarly, would collecting every theologically dumb and counter-doctrinal thing a candidate's ever said (hi Clorentine) and disseminating it to Grand Clerics who care about that be low or medium?

CHARACTER: Max
WHO THEY SUPPORT: ehhh Benedetta or Agathe would be equally ideal, but mainly she cares about sabotaging Gertruda and Clorentine in hopes of making sure whoever is elected is friendly to the Inquisition so y'all can get her island back please.
IDEAS/DREAMS: I'M STILL BRAINSTORMING and will probably add to this, but initial thoughts: obtaining blackmail material, spreading detrimental gossip, plausibly deniable reputation ruining, undercutting a candidate's finances somehow?? (conveniently adjacent: theft??) Max is the type to go big, so I would be down to involve her in a plot to take out a candidate entirely, or stick to something smaller.

CHARACTER: Ilias Fabria
WHO THEY SUPPORT: ❤ Agathe ❤
IDEAS/DREAMS: Ilias is sort of politically avoidant if given the option, BUT he is a Nevarran noble with personal connections to other nobles and Mortalitasi, as well as a politically active extended family (his grandmother in particular is a shark in a wimple), so if anyone needs contacts in the Nevarran nobility or Chantry, or possibly even leverage on a rando NPC for a plot, he could be talked into helping. And I would love to make him do something useful with his connections for once in his life.

+ If anyone wants to fight about which Divine mages ought to support I'm also here for that. :>

CHARACTER: Anders
WHO THEY SUPPORT: ELISE though he might be able to deal with Agathe
IDEAS/DREAMS:
-He's absolutely going to be looking into helping people with dementia, researching any assistance that can be given there, and I'm looking for people who are science/healer/medically inclined to join up with him. I've got a couple already and if more come in I'll try to make it an actual Plot rather than a low-impact thingy.
-I'm up for other things that help Elise & Agathe or sabotage Gertruda, Clorentine, and/or Benedetta.

CHARACTER: Thor
WHO THEY SUPPORT: He's not partial, but he would claim that he's just anti-Gertruda.
IDEAS/DREAMS: Thor would participate in sabotage things for the sake of chaos, all while acting like of course he's doing it to help because once there's a Divine in place then maybe the South will get its act together and unite to defeat Corypheus which helps him, right? So hit him up if you want Mr. Chaotic Golden Retriever along for the ride.

CHARACTER: Inessa Serra
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Agathe. Given Elise's issues and many detractors, she'll go with a candidate that seems more likely to succeed. She wouldn't say no to sabotaging Gertruda or Clorentine, either.
IDEAS/DREAMS: Grey Wardens are supposed to be politically neutral...but we all know how much of a joke that's become. Inessa's not willing to flout that overtly, but she could be persuaded into some behind-the-scenes shenanigans.

CHARACTER: Skadi Iceblade

IDEAS/DREAMS: Skadi isn't politically savvy or subtle, but if you want an agent of chaos anywhere...well, she's available.

CHARACTER: Fingon
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Fingon's not Andastrian and still doesn't understand why you need all this organization rigamarole to worship, but hey Elise or Agathe sound nice? Ish?
IDEAS/DREAMS: Fingon is available for any sort of more physical shenanigans or for anything you might need someone who can temporarily Bard for. He's not ideal for my actual suggestion, however, so I'm going to throw it out there and see if anyone's interested.

All of these grand clerics would be at the heads of pretty serious regional religious bureaucracies, and that means a lot of money would be floating around through them- and even the most ascetic clerics have been caught mismanaging the money entrusted to them before. If someone were to dig deep enough into their finances, they might find malfeasance or just general management incompetence enough to embarrass the candidates and cause some supporters to drop them.

Alternatively, although this is probably a bit too dark, it's entirely possible that hospitals, orphanages or the like under the Clerics' care could be open to allegations of mismanagement and abuse.

Hey, these are great suggestions.

My characters don't have quite the right skillset for it either, but a while back I had planned for Nell to run a mission to frame Gertruda for embezzling from her hospitals, but I never quite found time to get it rolling. It'd probably be a High Risk mission here and likely to fail, but it involved a somewhat more smashy/sneaky approach to it because Nell's no good at bookkeeping either. I may try to actually do that now, so let me know if you'd be interested in getting Fingon involved if I do, since we're thinking along similar-ish lines?

CHARACTER: Alexandrie de la Fontaine
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Agathe: Low enough in the rankings that she might remember friendly faces ex post facto, liberal enough that she might enable the thing Lexie cares about at the moment (you know, besides saving the world she guesses), which is the legitimacy of her Politically Problematic Hoped For Marriage. Seems like a fun person to wheedle her ultimate ambitions out of, seems divertable into being ambitious in nice directions for her the Inquisition.
IDEAS/DREAMS: What isn't Lexie willing to do, really? She's packing a folio of decent blackmail from her years at court, is both very convincing and "very convincing", and will beg, borrow, and steal for the chance to legitimately acquire her desired surname. If that happens to come with something nice for other people, well, bully for them! That was part of the plan all along. :)

[ Don't want to get your hands dirty? Need a woman with money, a stunning smile, honey on her tongue, and claws under her gloves? Inquire within. ]

CHARACTER: Nahariel Dahlasanor
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Elise. Unpopular with the current Chantry seems fine to her, and she's the candidate likeliest to reinstate the Canticle of Shartan.
IDEAS/DREAMS: Really she's just here for grunt-work on the up and up. She can't lie to save her life or anyone else's, and also Cade would be disappointed in her.

[ BUT, if you want to know where exactly in the wall someone's hiding their skeletons, or need someone to ferret out secret desk drawers, call her. ]

CHARACTER: Charles Vane
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Tbh, he cares about none of this shit, you're all butthole 8V He'll likely support whoever Max, Flint and Silver say would be best for them, because he's getting the high fucking hell out of this entire society as soon as Corypheus is dead. So probably with Max on sabotaging Gertruda and Clorentine /o/
IDEAS/DREAMS: I would love for him to get involved in some shady shit re: this. He's noooooot super likely to try to assassinate one of the candidates, and he's even less interested in playing the blackmail and gossip game, but if shit needs to be thieved or people need to be roughed up, he's there. Just let Max and Silver handle the skeevy shit.

CHARACTER: Iorveth
WHO THEY SUPPORT: supporting Elise, 100%, he don't care if she's going cray. The best for elves possible, please and thank.
IDEAS/DREAMS: Iorveth is absolutely willing to do everything sketchy and shady possible to make sure elves come out of this thing with the best options for the future. He is grossed out by any of the other candidates looking for settling for slightly better treatment. Iorveth's down for sabotaging other candidates lmf probably down for assassination attempts on the more conservative ones, he'll do pretty much all the underhanded stuff. it'll have to brain more on specific plots, but I'd really love to have him meddle some :> hit me up if you have any ideas you could used a skilled person of questionable moral fiber for : D

CHARACTER: Byerly Rutyer
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Benedetta. Strongly anti-Elise and Gertruda.
IDEAS/DREAMS: THIS IS BYERLY'S JAAAAM. I want to run at least two missions with him. The first mission will most likely consist of finding one of Clorentine's well-connected followers and changing their mind, using massively underhanded tactics (along the lines of seduction and blackmail); the second will consist of manufacturing rumors that Gertruda isn't nearly as ascetic as her followers thought, if you know what I mean.

Might also try to sabotage others' pro-Elise missions, if he catches wind of them happening.

CHARACTER: Kitty Jones
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Elise.
IDEAS/DREAMS: Kitty, perhaps shockingly, isn't actually going to be all that worked up about the election of the Divine, largely because she's actually kind of blind to how important this is. (Being raised in an atheistic society means that even though she intellectually recognizes how important religion is here, she hasn't really internalized it yet.) So she won't be taking on any missions herself, but I would love to have other CR (or new folks!) drag her in on theirs.

CHARACTER: john silver
WHO THEY SUPPORT: this is the big leagues, kids. his clear preference is agathe, but he's also calculating enough to pull for benedetta if agatha becomes completely untenable. like max, he's really most concerned with knocking out undesirable candidates (looks directly at gertruda, glances at clorentine and elise) and letting public opinion do the rest.
IDEAS/DREAMS: as always, john suggests a whisper campaign and fucking ruining someone's life with gossip but really he's good for a lot of sneaky sneaky mean girl shit.

ok my big sales pitch: john and flint have been collecting intel they've been planning on using to frame/implicate folks in venatori dealings. what they (likely john) will want to attempt is to use this information not against clorentine or benedetta directly, but to tarnish and frame some of their most prominent wealthy supporters and make them look bad by association and erode support for them from the ground up. anyone who wants to help whisper whisper whisper their way to ruining someone's reputation pls apply within.

I don't think I have anyone suited to participating, but the Alienage strikes sound like a cool idea you should def have Merrill pursue! Something to widen the Thedas Overton Window on elf issues (with the potential, I assume, of some serious blowback).

I'm not sure if it's something Merrill would go for, but Dalish association could also be used to tarnish a candidate — since, you know, heathens. Dalish clan agreement to back a candidate on the more moderate end of the spectrum (so it wouldn't be COMPLETELY out of left field or automatic 'see Benedetta's right about the Marches') could be interesting. Maybe as a way to shake some dirt onto Agathe, and clear the field a bit for Elise supporters.

CHARACTER: Bastien
WHO THEY SUPPORT: As an ex-poor, he has a soft spot for Gertruda, but he also thinks the Chantry is a snake pit and won’t be an idealist about any of them. He most passionately just wants someone’s ass in the big chair so they can whip up the zealots and get Corypheus out of Orlais ASAP.
IDEAS/DREAMS:
• He’s still playing Harmless Noncombatant and wouldn’t volunteer for any in-person spy shenanigans, but if somebody needs anonymous leaflets, hit him up?? Depending on what they’re for obviously. And he knows a lot of people in Orlais, so he might be able to connect your people to those people.
• He will care most about the Chantry not being too fractured or distracted after the decision, so if things look uncertain or keep shifting back and forth, he might last-minute ditch neutrality and want to make whoever is most to blame for splitting the vote unviable via scandal or something so more people consolidate behind the top choice.

CHARACTER: Jehan
WHO THEY SUPPORT: The Process.
IDEAS/DREAMS:
• He doesn’t fully approve of the Inquisition meddling with Clorentine, who he’s probably met a few times, and he definitely wouldn’t approve of anyone else going rogue to sabotage the others or manipulate the process. Keep your voices down or he’ll tattle.
• If anybody fails a roll and wants it to be because they were ratted out (with smile and plausible innocence) or the candidate at issue was forewarned and countered them, you know where to find me.
• Otherwise he’ll mostly stay out of it, unless someone needs help with something that’s above-board and benevolent, like meeting with someone to talk about providing security to candidates or something.

CHARACTER: Kostos
WHO THEY SUPPORT: He thinks Elise is a pipe dream—it’d be cool but it isn’t going to happen—and would prefer Agathe, but mostly he thinks he doesn’t get an opinion.
IDEAS/DREAMS:
• He still considers himself a Loyalist and won’t want to do anything in direct opposition to the clergy, so unless someone is really really persuasive he won’t do anything outside of maybe hindering Clorentine. Maybe. If he has to.
• Otherwise he’ll probably just argue with people and be a stick in the mud.
• But separate from influencing the Divine he is going to do some things to prepare for the worst case scenario, like what if they do have a strict Divine who starts corralling mages immediately, and trying to do things to mitigate that. So if anyone wants to wander down that tangential path with me lmk.

overharrowed: (sick with booze)

[personal profile] overharrowed 2019-02-14 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER: Julius
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Agathe. Even if he's a fuzzy Loyalist at this point, he still believes the reforms that are most likely to stick are gradual ones, and is all about slow, frustrating progress through compromise. He could be convinced to live with Elise or Benedetta, but Gertruda is a hard pass because of her former (possibly current) stance on rifters.
IDEAS/DREAMS: I am into him getting into arguments (good-natured or otherwise) with his fellow mages or other CR if it comes up. As far as concrete action, he may suck it up and write to his mom Lady Selwyn to get his ear to the ground in Ferelden, but I'd love to get him involved in other stuff too. Diplomacy and being charming are his main resources, but he can also do research-y things. I'll come back through the rest of these comments later but hit me up if you have ideas for him.

CHARACTER: Cosima Niehaus
WHO THEY SUPPORT: No one. Cosima feels strongly that followers of Andraste get to pick their own leaders, and that since she's not a member of the church, it's not up to her to have an opinion.
IDEAS/DREAMS: She'll work against Clorentine inasmuch as her job requires it, but otherwise she's not planning to get involved. That said, if someone she feels strongly about asks for her help, she might not be able to say no to a direct request.

CHARACTER: Romain de Coucy
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Right now, he thinks Benedetta is the best of the options available, but her lack of experience gives him a bit of pause. He'd definitely not be an Elise supporter under any circumstances, but Gertruda or Agathe would be on the table with the right argument. Also, he has expressed none of this directly to anyone.
IDEAS/DREAMS: I am still thinking for him, beyond his scheduled chat on the subject with Thranduil! I think it's plausible that he's got indirect connections to more than one of the candidates, and might be able to pull some of those strings if he decides it's worthwhile, but I haven't decided if/how to actually play this out yet. More info when I think of it/ideas welcome.
galvanising: (Default)

[personal profile] galvanising 2019-02-14 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER: Nell
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Elise. She doesn't really care about her issues, thinks it's worth it to get her in and get stuff on paper ASAP and if she falls apart after they can burn that bridge when they come to it. If Elise becomes clearly hopeless, she'd compromise to Agathe.
IDEAS/DREAMS: Not particularly sneaky, but up for helping try to sink Gertruda and Clorentine and boost Elise (or, later, maybe Agathe). The ends justify the means, so whatever it takes. May run a high risk mission to try to discredit Gertruda by framing her for embezzling from her charitable efforts? If you need someone who's up for anything, especially if being loud and smashy is helpful, hit her up.

CHARACTER: Yseult
WHO THEY SUPPORT: On the fence. Gertruda's genuine devotion to helping the poor appeals, as does Benedetta's willingness to stir up an Exalted March and help the Inquisition out with Corypheus, and she can see the appeal of Agathe's methodical reform, too.
IDEAS/DREAMS: She's definitely willing to help pursue Skyhold's orders to undermine Clorentine, and would potentially assist in supporting any of the three above depending on what the particular plan was. Might be up for publicizing the truth of Elise's condition. Operations to undermine candidates will be a harder sell but not entirely out of the question. Basically, she knows this is an inevitably politicized/scheme-y process and is willing to participate, but cares about the Chantry as an institution and will be reluctant to help with things that might damage it too much. But she's got the skillset to help with basically all of your shady plans, from gathering info to assassination, so if you have an idea let's talk!

CHARACTER: Freddie
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Freddie, like many academics, prefers Agathe. Benedetta also wouldn't be the end of the world. Honestly doesn't hate Clorentine THAT much, either. She's not great but eh.
IDEAS/DREAMS: Doesn't super care, to be honest. She might be persuaded to use her connections to help open doors to the middling ranks of Orlesian nobility and the TOP ranks of Orlesian scholarship, if that would be helpful to anyone. Also capable of providing large amounts of wine. Not sure how that would help, exactly, but I feel like there's some sort of potential scheme to be had there.

CHARACTER: Teren von Skraedder
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Agathe, because weird intense ambitious Nevarrans stick together and she has the likeliest chance of both getting shit done and not being absolutely fucking intolerable about it
IDEAS/DREAMS: For the first time in her long shitty life Teren is not going to actively take the terrorist approach, because now she has to be an adult and run the Inquisition's Wardens. But if anyone needs her skillset, especially in the pursuit of helping Agathe, she'll be there to help in her usual shady way.

CHARACTER: Cade Harimann
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Benedetta, because Cade truly and genuinely believes that Andraste is the Way and deep in his heart thinks that if everyone were converted the world would be better
IDEAS/DREAMS: He won't be sitting this out necessarily, but if anyone wants to have an offensive argument with someone who truly means well but is still pretty ignorant, he's your boy.

CHARACTER: Benedict Artemaeus
WHO THEY SUPPORT: none of them, everyone knows the Divine is a dude
IDEAS/DREAMS: He has no horse in this race apart from wanting to help the Inquisition (and get ahead in it), so if anyone needs Tevinter connections or research of some kind or pointless indolent beauty, here he is.

CHARACTER: Nikos
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Elise and if you don't support her you're a wimp
IDEAS/DREAMS: IDEALLY I want to KILL. bumping off Clorentine or some key supporter might be the most useful to the Inquisition but the Inquisition isn't totally the reason that Nikos is here. I'm wavering between him acting against Gertruda and Agathe. he likes Gertruda's love of the Poors but hates everything else about her. on the other hand, Agathe isn't radical enough for him and sometimes you gotta kill to push someone to go the extra mile. PLUS an act against her might get Nevarran attention and stir stuff up over there which would be so rad, they have so much chaos and shit now but Nevarra needs to fall apart and crumble faster.

anyways the bullet point version is: does anyone ELSE want to drop a big fat dead body on these proceedings

CHARACTER: Matthias
WHO THEY SUPPORT: also Elise and anyone who doesn't is a COWARD
IDEAS/DREAMS: Matthias is new in town and wants to yell at people for their moderate viewpoints. he'll 100% retaliate if anyone is doing anything to sabotage Elise, so if you fail a roll and need a reason to have failed in something let's kibbitz. he's not a tattler but he does get into fights.

if the Inquisition is anti-Clorentine, he's down to act against her, preferably demonstrably. he's not a great planner but he makes a great henchman so rope him into something, thanks. personally he's a Tantervale boy and he is totally and fully anti-Gertruda and willing to mess up her chances in any way that he can, what a c u next tuesday. so if anyone has plans there, he'll latch on so fast.

CHARACTER: Salvio
WHO THEY SUPPORT: quietly supporting Gertruda but trying to pretend to be neutral
IDEAS/DREAMS: Salvio is going to keep to the party line and work to help frustrate Clorentine's plans in as background and subtle a way as possible. He's going to desperately trying to get others to do the same. If you need a body for a plan to support her, he's here. If you need someone to overhear your plans and get you in trouble, he's here for that too.

I also have Jester, who has no real opinion but will help make banners and posters and leaflets, and Darras, who truly does not care, and Val, who doesn't care very much but does think that the Inquisition should probably keep out of Chantry business at least a little and let the process sort itself out; supports Benedetta or Agathe. I'm going to be mostly backseating the three of them but they're available if they can be helpful or if you need another person for a plan.

ZOOMS AT THIS with some still vague brainstorming, but:

1) Murder is not Max's first choice but i mean #pirates, i feel like there might be potential for a plot to assassinate Gertruda (or a supporter) to mesh with whatever they end up doing??? especially if a Clorentine supporter could be framed, or made to look bad via gossip, idk.

2) I actually love the idea of Nikos trying to assassinate Agathe more though, even though both my characters would hate it. Ilias is medium gullible and could have some useful info or connections, if that's helpful at all! With the caveat that it would have to be obtained sneakily b/c Ilias probs does not like Kostos enough not to tattle on his brother.

CHARACTER: Myrobalan Shivana
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Toss up between Benedetta and Agathe. His heart & zeal for the Maker say Benedetta (if, you know, she doesn't intend that conversion be by the sword but lbr it's Thedas); practicality says Agathe may be their best outcome. Elise is great on elves & he knows exactly why many people he cares about will support her but wow let's not cause another schism in the middle of a war by electing her, that's the last thing the Chantry needs. Gertruda has his affection as a Marcher boy but as good as she is on charity (which is Important) she's not going the right direction on a number of other things.
IDEAS/DREAMS: He'd like to be good and stay neutral about this (especially given his position) but is aware that's not an option for any number of reasons. Will be overtly largely focused on thwarting Clorentine (or her supporters, really) because them's orders; covertly, trying to feel out Benedetta & exactly how responsive she'd be to certain ideas about Circle reform and maybe not murdering the people we want to join the Chantry. But also, like:

  • Always here for Chant exegesis & theological arguments! (If they might aid your efforts.)
  • Need Chantry Relations resources for something you're planning? Come pitch him on it. Generally gonna be easier to get him to help than hinder candidates other than Clorentine.
  • 1000% down for starting or participating in some yelling about the fates of mages & maybe we should band together behind one candidate -- or not,
  • Same as above but about elves, since surely the Dalish & city elves will totally agree on this one, right guys?? right???
  • (unlock the deleted scene where he gets super emotional about the Canticle of Shartan and elves being Andraste's champions)

CHARACTER: Isaac
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Benedetta
  • Thinks she's the most likely winner, and that an Exalted March isn't necessarily bad for mages. (Uh, sorry elves)

  • IDEAS/DREAMS:
  • I'll be swinging around other people's plans, but I'm mostly interested in candidate discussion.
  • And in planning for worst-case scenarios! If someone conservative wins, where do we go from there. Etc.

  • CHARACTER: Casimir
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Everyone, this is a decision for the Grand Clerics.
    IDEAS/DREAMS:
  • He’ll support any candidate in positive ways. Not willing to get down n dirty.
  • Most interested in Weird Plans for him, can act as a potential spoiler on [negative campaign of choice] if you need someone to.

  • CHARACTER: Coupe
    WHO THEY SUPPORT: Agathe
  • Their ideas align most closely & she thinks the Chantry needs a forceful hand to reunify.
  • Doesn't trust Benedetta to end an Exalted March with Corypheus, dislikes those implications.
  • Thinks Elise is too tainted by rumour regardless of truth, that backing her makes the Inquisition look like they're trying too blatantly to puppet someone.
  • Expects Gertruda to turn on them when it's expedient.

  • IDEAS/DREAMS:
  • I'll be swinging around other people's plans! She's down for basically anything but assassination, and can interefere in stuff if needed.
  • Look for dark horse candidates outside the clergy to attempt to split votes for some candidates.
  • Look at whoever’s likely to succeed Elise if she dies. Work to win them over, rather than Elise herself, as a way to turn supporters to another candidate.
  • Identify Clorentine's financial backers and potential Hands, work at removing or swaying them.

    CHARACTER: James Flint
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Agathe, but might pivot to Elise given even a fraction of an excuse to (because, really, who doesn't want to be an impassioned idealist??).
    IDEAS/DREAMS:
  • Flint doesn't much care who sits on the chair in the long term as long as they can survive the forseeable future and get something done re: the fight with Corpyheus. After that, everything is liquid because you can double cross that old lady when you get to her if you need to. Or cross that bridge when you get to it? Hard to say how that saying goes.
  • Here to be convinced one way or another; what's this - a rare instance where he might theoretically change his mind??
  • Helping facilitate spreading rumors about Clorentine and Bendetta's supporters, blackmail folks, and generally be involved in the sneaky under the table stuff to damage the reputations of more conservative candidates and their supporters.
  • There's a real thought experiment to be had in 'Look, I like Agathe but maybe we should also consider that Nevarra is already a shit show without adding this complication'
  • Someone should point out to cash-strapped and short-handed Orlais that Rialto's exalted march would probably leave exactly one nation dangerously vulnerable during and afterward. Maybe someone should point that out to disgruntled Orlesian peasants and soldiers who are already sick of fighting and might be encouraged to set some estates etc on fire to prove a point.
  • idk supporting an assassination maybe

    CHARACTER: Marcoulf
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Not Meddling In This
    IDEAS/DREAMS:
  • Please leave him out of this.
  • This is none of his business.
  • But also if you need someone to lend support to sabotaging efforts against Clorentine, he'll probably still do it, he'll just be conflicted about it.
  • If you're a friend and ask for a favor, he'll probably grudgingly do that too.

    CHARACTER: Wysteria Poppell
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Agathe, because her friends think it's cool. Might change her mind/be willing to work for or against other candidates as long as they're not ending up with Gertruda in the fancy hat.
    IDEAS/DREAMS:
  • Someone who won't put Rifters heads on spikes after the war is really all she cares about.
  • Wysteria's banked on her gregarious personality before to win points for the 'Rifters Might Not Be Demons We Guess' camp, so if you need someone to diplomatically chatter the ear off of folks to lean away from supporting Gertruda, she's your gal.
  • I'd also love to have her do some sneaky sleight of hand magic junk, so if you need a thief who isn't actually a thief and is just good at parlor-tricks-but-for-real, hit me up.

    CHARACTER: Solas
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Probably Agathe or Elise; Agathe because she's going to do some kind of lowkey reform and might be the more reliable of the two, and Elise because she could be the least reliable and thus easier to remove/get rid of for, you know. Future plans and such.
IDEAS/DREAMS: He'd be happy to go on missions with people to support either of these people! He will also be more than happy to help sabotage the ones he's not particularly fond of.

    CHARACTER: Hanzo Shimada
    WHO THEY SUPPORT: True Neutral
IDEAS/DREAMS: He doesn't care, this isn't his Divine, he's from Tevinter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If he's ordered to then he'll go on some kind of sleuth/undercover mission, but he's a little busy this month.

    CHARACTER: Six
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Probably Elise. Six is happy with the idea of someone who is progressive and cautious and does want to do some reform. She would be more inclined towards Gertruda if she wasn't so anti-Rifters since she has a great respect for true faith and devotion to that faith. She's not a huge supporter of the Chantry as it is, considering her interactions with it.
IDEAS/DREAMS: She'll go on missions! She'll fight! She'll do her job, because that's what she does.

    CHARACTER: Sidony Venaras

IDEAS/DREAMS: Samson is both angry and not surprised that none of the candidates give enough of a shit about templars to mention them even tangentially. What else is new. Given givens, he probably won't be doing much other than scowling while feeling like his entire life is a waste. (What else is new.) I am honestly not sure how or if he might conceivably be involved beyond complaining. Hey, maybe I should do his tags, ha ha don't look at me

    CHARACTER: Leander
WHO THEY SUPPORT: Elise, because mages, and because something memorable is bound to happen either way (though possibly not for her, ha ha senility jokes). Go big or go home, wussies!!
    IDEAS/DREAMS:
Lea is more likely to get mixed up directly in some plot or other than to just hang around talking about it. He's brand new to the Inquisition and thus comes with question marks level of trust, but if you want a fellow with a fun combination of extreme mage superiority opinions, strong respect for Circles as a concept, and a powerfully opportunistic self-interest, look no further.
Also, he is trying to impress ol' Fussyface Fabria over there, so that could be used to direct him, in theory (potentially dangerous, also potentially effective).
Also also, for the record: he is unlikely to go rogue and trash a mission for no reason, he is not that particular variety of disturbed. Trashing a mission for a compelling reason, though: perhaps, if he can get away with it.
