[OOC] The Sky is Falling!

Recently a rift opened in Skyhold itself. Although nobody saw it happen, it was rumored to have been opened by a mage native to Thedas and not one of the rifters.

There are damages to the courtyard from where buildings and vegetation have been singed and frozen and dented from the resulting demon battle. It looks a mess. This is a mess.

The purpose of this post is for general opinion gathering, rumormongering, and plotting for the fallout from this fiasco. If people can just open rifts wherever they want, what does this mean for the Inquisition? Can rifters do it, can regular mages do it? Why would someone within Skyhold and ostensibly part of the Inquisition do this in the first place? Why weren't snacks provided?

If you feel so inclined, reply with your character's reaction to the news (or the sight, or the battle) and what action they might want to take, if any. Plot, make CR, do the thing!

YOU'RE IN MY HOUSE, YOU FOLLOW MY RULES

Beleth you should really talk to Cullen. He's actually nice when things aren't being blown up or demolished.

Well yes. He does agree everyone with shards should be watched more closely. He's just angry at the situation.

you know how he is!! it's a delicate situation after kirkwall okay ;-;

he'll be nice when they start behaving.

Josephine, her favorite advisor. She'll appreciate what diplomacy the ambassador can bring to this, not unsympathetic to the headache of it all but very worried about mages being scapegoated yet again.
justice_is_blond: (But I don't understand)

Running scared. If they're this ready to start putting mages under limitations, their future is threatened. It'll be even worse once he's known, he figures.

She hopes Bethany brought enough for everyone...
fightingale: pb! inquisition era. (andraste etc)

[personal profile] fightingale 2016-02-06 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet!!! she is probably going to pace a lot!!! but scrutinising the shardholders and subjecting them to potential discrimination and judgment, when they are their only hope of closing the rifts? This is difficult to consider an effective response to that is not potentially... terrible, or like to spin out of control in some fashion

just drags hands down face and goes to brood in her tower tbh

honest mistake or no, it endangered people within the walls of their very stronghold, and especially after haven, people should feel safe there

honestly leliana is going to go drink some wine and fight off a migraine and idk existential angst

That is exactly the problem. Furthermore, they need the shardholders. They should be appreciated for coming to the Inquisition, and supported in bearing the struggle that the mark gives them, as well as honouring the Herald's legacy.

She simply hates inaction. Inaction might doom them as much as anything else.

Of course, being really strict on individual accountability might not be so great for Sina, either.

PERFECT

[personal profile] fightingale 2016-02-06 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
And even scapegoating the shardholders isn't a good solution, at all, as Leliana well knows. She hates inaction, though, and they need to ensure this cannot be repeated.... gah

are there any nobles far away we can blame for this

ANY AT ALL

but no, seriously: Leliana is grumpily linefacing at Cassandra and Cullen's suggestions, while entirely agreeing they need to take action, and is dissatisfied that she has not been able to uncover more info on rifts and that, uh. Murder isn't going to solve a thing, here. JOSIE HELP

Och, I'd not say that.

(He figured it out in the end, but then again he doesn't have magic and picked it up last.)

She's right, of course - and once Cassandra gets over her initial I LEAVE FOR FIVE MINUTES AND LOOK WHAT YOU DID she would definitely hone in on people who are actually a potential threat - which means rifter mages with unknown abilities/training. Even then, people who accept some form of supervision/seem in earnest about working to make sure this doesn't happen again aren't going to be terrorized.
theproperglove: (aside; face it like a grown-up)

[personal profile] theproperglove 2016-02-07 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
A very valid concern tbh because scapegoating mages has worked so well in the past...

Beleth would totally like Cullen if they spoke under calmer circumstances.

In the meantime she's going to stomp upstairs and slam her bedroom door.
