player plot: riftwatch hearts the troops

Hi! I’m looking for folks who want to go do some public relations work in Orlais.

What: There are some rumors (partially founded, sorry) that Riftwatch has been aiding deserters in Orlais. So now some people need to go do a song and dance about how great it is for people to join the war effort and definitely never desert. It will involve some combination getting cried on by war orphans, being interviewed by a medieval fantasy journalist, and attending a patriotic party.

How: So so so flexibly. You can choose any of the following activities:

• Family Visits: Visibly visiting the families of various deceased soldiers to offer them some gratitude and see if they need anything easily provided. For folks who want to do this part, I’ll write up little paragraphs about the families your characters are visiting, and you can RP whatever aspects of that you want—the visits themselves, getting a drink afterwards, whatever—or just handwave it and use it for flavor later.
  
  
• Interview: Talking to a writer for one of Orlais’ periodicals about how much Riftwatch loves military service. This is mostly just an excuse for me to NPC an intrepid fantasy reporter and interview characters and then write some ridiculous snippet of fantasy journalism to attach to the plot report.
  
  
• Parade & Party: Attend a military parade and fancy mingle honoring a decorated officer, hosted by a lord who was particularly aggrieved about the desertion business and needs to be appeased. This will be an open prompt for anyone who likes to suffer in their best clothes. But it’s also where I’ll stash some of the Personal part of the Plot, if anyone wants to break up a bard fight in the back rooms.
  
  
• Whatever: If you want to do your own Val Royeaux side adventures or travel banter or whatever else, rad.

Who: This is diplomacy work, but anyone from any division can come as long as they’re well-behaved enough that it wouldn’t be stupid to let them! Or if we work out some other justification—hit me up if you want to send someone not really appropriate and we can try to work out an excuse. Something something, muscle for protection during the trip, whatever.

When: Sign up by February 21, so I can lasso people and tailor some things, and then the log will go up by February 24.

OOC RP Preference: I'm here for awkward conversations where no one mentions the specifics if Marcoulf's involvement in the last Orlesian war, and being generally pro the soldiering life. Here to bring the average hotness score down from a 10 to an 8 so Riftwatch doesnt seem completely unreasonable.
Notes: If ever there was an opportunity to have marcoulf go hide in a back room because someone might recognize him and stunble across things that are none of his business, this is it.

Family Visits

Some possible visits:

• A widowed merchant with seven young kids who's still insisting that her husband is fine and coming home. She'll seem nonplussed by the visit and leave shortly for work, at which point the elven cook/maid who works for her will be able to explain that they never returned his remains or ring and no one can get through to her without them.
  
• A family that's lost their two older sons and has a third who's about to turn 16 and head off himself. He's very steely about it and obviously pitching his voice a little lower on purpose to seem more manly; his parents are supportive in a tremulous way, but if they talk about it too long his father will have to leave the room.
  
• A teenaged daughter of two soldiers, whose parents both joined the Exalted March out of religious devotion and left her in charge of her younger siblings, then both died in the same skirmish. She's blatantly resentful of them for leaving, and she'll have a whole list of chores and home repairs someone can help with if they're really so interested in her family's welfare.

Plus others that were very routine "widow with a crying baby who's tired and grateful" fare. And you can say these went as well or as badly as you like, make up others if you want, etc.
