EVENT ↠ THE DRIFTING ROADS
EVENT: THE DRIFTING ROADS
The lead-in event for our mod plot is now up here! The post contains most of what you need to know, but essentially: characters will be tasked with exploring the Crossroads in pairs or small groups to map and note down as much as possible, and along the way they'll encounter your choice of obstacles and annoyances and spirits intent on making them uncomfortable.
For the canonblind or canon-forgetting, the Crossroads is a magical pocket of reality, not the "real" world but also not the Fade, where all of Thedas' eluvians ultimately connect. The landscape consists largely of isolated platforms of partially-destroyed buildings and patches of land—some completely unreachable, others accessible using paths that may require activation to appear or by traveling through internal eluvians that only lead to other places within the Crossroads rather than anywhere in the outside world. Gravity exists but may change directions unexpectedly. Spirits are fairly common. The Crossroads appears differently to elves and non-elves. For non-elves, the landscape can be disorienting and difficult to focus on, and they may feel weighed down. In FR, rifters in the Crossroads appear a little brighter—like someone turned up their saturation—but experience the same difficulty as non-elves.)
MYSTERY SIGN-UPS
Toward the end of the mapping effort, one team will encounter some particular difficulties that will lead into our mod plot capstone event for this cycle (finally!).
We are seeking 2-4 volunteers for the PCs who require assistance. We're being deliberately vague for surprise purposes just because, but we can say that the characters who need help may be inaccessible for a couple IC days. They will not be able to participate in the network post raising the alarm or the immediate response to it, but they will otherwise be able to participate in the bulk of both this lead-in event and the mod plot event itself.
We also need 1-2 volunteers for their teammates who witness the problem and report back to raise the alarm--these characters will be responsible for making a public network post about what's happened.
Sign-ups are below. The deadline to sign up is April 16, 2020. If we have more people than we can use, we'll RNG.
QUESTIONS
no subject
follow-up question: if a couple of dumbasses decided to go through some eluvians, would that be okay, are there any rules about what they might find on the other side
no subject
Going through the eluvians is part of everyone's job here, since they need to note down where they lead! So no one is being a dumbass if they peek through them. It's just not the focus of the event, compared to the Crossroads stuff. Going through will lead to a mix of nondescript ruins in forests, deserts, caves, etc., as well as a few libraries or estates, some darkened storage rooms, and at least one storage crate that causes people to immediately hit their head on wood if they try to walk through.
