project felandaris plot.

WHERE LIES THE STRANGLING FRUIT
WHAT:
the village of Bierstagg is known for its apple orchards and very little else. nobody has really seen nor heard of anyone from that area for some seasons until a young girl was found wandering down from one of the unkempt roads that lead from Bierstagg to Ansburg. she was in such a shellshocked state that she was questioned by some local watchmen. getting coherent information from her was no simple task, but it amounted to the following: she ran away from her family who had fallen very ill, and was extremely reluctant at the prospect of return. they asked after whether there were demons or mages or any other troublemaking thing, and eventually learned that a rift had opened nearby some time ago, but this didn't seem to be a point of interest to her, nor did her report sound like there were any demons to worry about.
some enterprising men and women went to investigate, but found the path to Bierstagg completely overgrown. one of the men fell ill after eating some local berries that were absolutely not supposed to be poisonous, and another had expressed a nameless fear and strong desire to turn back. they sent a message to Riftwatch, hoping they could make themselves useful.
TL;DR WHAT:
this plot revolves around investigating a remote village that purportedly has a rift nearby. without giving too much away, the general premise is that a thinness of the Veil has affected the local landscape, and also the people within it. Riftwatch agents will have to solve the immediate problem, and also make some decisions on what to do in the aftermath.
this plot will deal in themes of light horror and existential crises.
HOW:
how this plot plays out, what aspects will be in focus, and how the problem is to be solved will be dependent on the people who are interested in playing! the sign up form has some questions around your characters skills and also your ooc rp interests, and we shall go from there.
WHO:
i will be looking at an initial group of 2-4 people. they can be from any division! obviously there is a research-based slant to this, but forces can fend off unknown threats, scouts can take quiet approaches, diplomacy can speak to villagers, and so on. as mentioned above, the plot will be tailored to the people who sign up.
once the mystery is explored by them, it will be more open for general advice and participation from anyone who is interested and has relevant skills.
WHEN:
sign ups will last until the end of July. plotting will take place after that, and expect then for the log to go up around the second week of August.
comment to this post to express your interest!
character sign ups.

DIVISION: research
What skills do you bring to the table?: jos is an alchemist with the caution level of someone who dies two thirds the way through an aliens movie instead of at the start. has some experience with field work. minimal combat ability, exclusively hitting stuff with her staff. also, has a rift-shard.
Do you prefer violent action, social interactions with NPCs, or exploration? all of these things sound good
If you aren't RNG'd into the plot, would you like to be on call for later inclusion based off your skills? def
How okay are you with injury, on a scale between 'I'm a delicate baby' and 'fuck me up'? fuck me up
How okay are you with illness, on a scale between 'I'm a delicate baby' and 'fuck me up'? fuck me up

DIVISION: Research
What skills do you bring to the table?: Nerdy magic theory knowledge, studied the Veil + has some innate sensitivity to its thinness, can MacGyver magic device repairs and amplify spells per his spec. His dreamer abilities are not public knowledge and their usefulness in the field is limited, but they could cause problems if that's useful to you OOC, since he's a demon magnet.
Do you prefer violent action, social interactions with NPCs, or exploration? All of the above, but in order of preference: violence, exploration, socializing
If you aren't RNG'd into the plot, would you like to be on call for later inclusion based off your skills? Yes please! That'd be a reasonable IC decision too tbh, since he has negative combat ability or fieldwork experience.
How okay are you with injury, on a scale between 'I'm a delicate baby' and 'fuck me up'? give me wild body horror injuries please
How okay are you with illness, on a scale between 'I'm a delicate baby' and 'fuck me up'? extremely here for fantasy illnesses that get weird; more realistic illness is not really my jam rn but Caius is not the nurturing sort anyway so I can work around w/e.

However, as mentioned, there will be opportunity for assistance once the initial team makes exploration headway, and you may be randomly or on purpose selected to help out at that time.

What skills do you bring to the table?: Has rift shard, will travel (to close rifts). Rift nerd; one time helped wrangle a magical artifact that was causing all kinds environmental problems and so obviously considers herself to be an expert when it comes to weird nature in relation to magic now.
Do you prefer violent action, social interactions with NPCs, or exploration? Anything goes, with the caveat that Wysteria is useless in a fight. I, however, like writing action so spreads hands.
If you aren't RNG'd into the plot, would you like to be on call for later inclusion based off your skills? you cant escape me
How okay are you with injury, on a scale between 'I'm a delicate baby' and 'fuck me up'? Medium ok. I'm fine with her getting sort of roughed up in the name of adventure, but would prefer to avoid debilitating injury (it'd just be sad and awkward lbr)
How okay are you with illness, on a scale between 'I'm a delicate baby' and 'fuck me up'? Medium ok. See above.
(That said, as a player I'm down to interact with anything. Thumbs up.)

What skills do you bring to the table?: Alais has ~studied the Veil~ academically / for the Venatori, and has some custom spells meant to make interacting w magical research materials easier. She does not have any combat experience. Ancho shardr, a typo I'm not correcting.
Do you prefer violent action, social interactions with NPCs, or exploration? Exploration > Social > Action, I enjoy writing whatever though. I'm really just here for the Annihilation gif.
If you aren't RNG'd into the plot, would you like to be on call for later inclusion based off your skills? Sure!

How okay are you with injury, on a scale between 'I'm a delicate baby' and 'fuck me up'? like an 8 out of 10 i dont want to be a bag of guts on a wall, content to never enter the room where combat is happening and support others in their bad injury time also.
How okay are you with illness, on a scale between 'I'm a delicate baby' and 'fuck me up'? medium the implications of this plot intimidate me

What skills do you bring to the table?: Vanadi is very stealthy, using slippery magic for it where needed, and specializes in not getting close enough to a weird thing to report back without actually get involved with it. Getting involved with things is his very least favorite thing.
Do you prefer violent action, social interactions with NPCs, or exploration? I'm into all of these things, but the enthusiasm scale goes violent action > exploration > social interaction.
