IT'S A SLASHER (not that kind of slasher).
WHAT: The noble house of Pickney in Ostwick has a rift open in their backyard. They've asked Riftwatch to send some capable fighters to close it, along with some nerdy types to record the event for their family history. Everything goes to plan. The matriarch of the clan, Lady Elsed, mentions that her son Gawen has gone missing, and if they can get him back to her, there's a reward. Seeing as Gawen rather publicly announced his attention to elope with a Dalish elf earlier in the month, no one's particularly bothered, but Elsed is sure something's up.
On the way back from Ostwick, a storm hits, and everybody decides to stay overnight in an inn on the road. The Silver Lamp is currently empty-- it's apparently the off season-- which means you get to stay the night for a discount!
Everything above? That's gonna be handwaved. Because... Here's where the real plot kicks in: The proprietor of the Silver Lamp, a humble fellow named Medrod, is a murderer. Can you survive the night?
...Yes, you can, everyone is going to live (unless you pick this as a unique way to drop your character, I'm not your boss), but it'll be a traumatizing night in the meanwhile.
HOW: After a nice meal, everyone goes to sleep. Medrod will be releasing a sleeping toxin (he's secretly an alchemist! Ooh!) laced with Magebane to knock everyone out and dampen any possible magical abilities. Your character will be pared with another character, and they will wake up in a Torture Dungeon. They have a set number of tags (known only to me) before Medrod comes in to try and finish them off.
Can they escape in time? Do they defeat the murderer? Do they find the remains of Gawen and his Elven lover in the basement? Do they burn the whole place down? This will depend on what you guys do! At some intervals I'll be intervening to let you know, oh, you have the opportunity of rescuing a character, or you run into another group that's escaped, etc.
(Yes, I will be NPCing Medrod The Murderer.)
WHEN: Signups close Oct 26, AKA next Monday. Log will begin Thursday 29th, just in time for Halloween. ICly, late Harvestmere / early Kingsway, at a vague time that works for everybody, don't think about it too much.
WHO: You! There are signups in the comments. Maximum of 8 characters, needs to be an even number.
If your character is the type to be immune to the weakening conditions of the sleeping gas with magic dampening effects, and tear out of the Inn with no problems, this isn't the plot for you! This is about characters being afraid, suffering trauma, possibly thinking they might really die, and coming together to escape.

wrack. The rack won't get tighter as time goes on, but it's already stretched to an uncomfortable degree, causing tension in most major joints.Luckily (?), Barrow is in the room with Athessa. Unluckily, he's in an iron maiden. hey i know i said max 8 but i'm a sucker so ANYWAYDick will awaken chained to a table next to the remains of a body. Upon closer inspection, this body is the upper... bits of a Dalish elf. She has been expertly preserved somehow, likely through taxidermy. Fun!
Dick isn't alone, though! He's got a friend, though he may not notice it at first. Holden is in the room, trapped in an Iron Maiden. Oops!

hey i know i said max 8 but i'm a sucker so ANYWAYHolden will awaken inside an iron maiden, so don't move around too much. Or do, I'm not your dad. The device isn't perfectly shaped to his body, so as long as he doesn't move at all, he won't be immediately stabbed by thousands of super sharp metal bits. Luckily for you, the iron maiden isn't locked, you just have to move yourself a lot to push it open.
Your new best friend Dick is chained to a nearby table, which you can see through the Iron Maiden's screaming metal mouth. You can also see he's got a new buddy, but don't be jealous, she's dead and missing her limbs. A well preserved Dalish elf corpse is lying next to him, and she seems pretty okay with it, but that might be because she's very dead.
