In whatever handwavey whirly-gig device mechanics that make sense to the thaumoscope, examining the Rift will register two distinct energy signatures, both with a wave like pattern. One signature is consistent with the "fadeiation" readings of other powerful rifts; the other is a mystery signal (that your Warden friends might be able to identify, eyes.emoji, or if Tony has been poking the thaumoscope around the Taint, then that might do it too; I'm not sure how sophisticated the thaumoscope is, so use your best judgement).
If both can be detected, then it will be possible to recognize an ebb and flow pattern: taint energy surges, then recedes as a wave of fade energy rises, which then in turn recedes as the taint energy rises again, etc.
I'll get you some hot details on what happens readings-wise if the rift is poked with the proverbial anchor stick. I know previous attempts to close the rift caused the rift to get larger/"bubble" tainted ichor.
ETA: As far as readings go, engaging the gate with an anchor will show a disruption in the wave pattern previously described. There will be a steep decrease in Fade energy coming from the gate, and a corresponding surge of Taint energy.
