FORCES MISSION: DON'T DUMAT OPEN INSIDE
WHAT: A little spirit told me that we should do something about a spooky rift under Ghislain that warrants a second look. Following up on the initial discovery of the Shrine of Dumat, a team of Riftwatch-ers will be charged with returning to the temple of Dumat where they will gather additional information in the ritual chamber, and secure the area/confirm that said spooky rift or "gate" is the biggest problem on file there. Bonus points if anyone can recover the body of the Venatori mage the last science team left there without getting the taint all over everyone's hands.
HOW: Cue Indiana Jones temple run booby trap hijinks. Riftwatch's agents will explore the subterranean sections of the Shrine of Dumat in an effort to discover all of its secrets rather than just proceeding directly to the ritual chamber where the gate resides. After all, who knows what pesky things the Venatori might have been getting up to in the temple's ancillary chambers?
Your character will be paired with (at minimum) at least one other character in their temple exploration. I will be NPCing the booby trapped dungeon crawl/will occasionally intervene with information and challenges as your character progress through the temple; there will also be a free-for-all element that won't be NPC'd that is less time sensitive (see 'When' for additional details). Yes, I did steal parts of this set up from Pel's excellent murderhaus plot.
WHO: 4-6 Riftwatch agents, sign-ups open with preference to Forces Division members and any nerds being body guarded by them. This is primarily a mission to secure and map the shrine, focusing on gathering information rather than straight up solving the problem of the "gate" at the bottom of the shrine (although any intel you can bring back is welcome and valuable). Expect action and adventure, and to be staffed accordingly.
WHEN: Get your sign-ups in by end of day Sunday, February 28th. The log will be posted in the first week of March. Heavy NPCing of the dungeon exploration will occur only in the month of March. If we don't get to the bottom of things by then, I'll provide a recap of remaining unsolved mysteries.

If both can be detected, then it will be possible to recognize an ebb and flow pattern: taint energy surges, then recedes as a wave of fade energy rises, which then in turn recedes as the taint energy rises again, etc.
I'll get you some hot details on what happens readings-wise if the rift is poked with the proverbial anchor stick. I know previous attempts to close the rift caused the rift to get larger/"bubble" tainted ichor.
ETA: As far as readings go, engaging the gate with an anchor will show a disruption in the wave pattern previously described. There will be a steep decrease in Fade energy coming from the gate, and a corresponding surge of Taint energy.
