OOC Plotting: What Can One Grey Warden Do?
WHO
Hercules, Jamie, Kain, Rachette, Alistair, Kaidan, Bethany, Dorian, Anders, and Nathaniel.
THE PLAN
Ambush Site: a small gorge in the Western Approach, sandy and gross.
The Target: Livius Erimond
The Enemy: Eight Warden mages and eight (un-known-about) demons.
Equipment: Drugged darts, traps galore, armored dummies, getaway horses.
Team D: Distraction. Led by Herc, this team will include Jamie, Rachette, and Kain.
Team S: Snatch. This team will include Nathaniel and Alistair.
Team C: Cover. Led by Kaidan, this will include Bethany and Dorian.
Combat Medic: Anders
Team D will pretend to be bandits on the road from the Western Approach. They will set themselves up at the east end of the gorge while the target enters from the west end. There will be a shitton of traps (the rogues from Team S will help with setup here). They will need to include a few armored dummies discreetly placed to make them look like a larger force than they are. Their purpose is to draw enemy fire. The importance of this cannot be emphasized enough. Team D must draw fire from 4-5 enemy mages before the plan can proceed. Remember the point is not to take the enemy down, but to keep the enemy's attention.
Before approaching, Team S will fire a drugged dart at Erimond to slow him down. Team S will then head straight for the target from the west end, with Alistair in front. Alistair will nullify the target's magic, Nathaniel will snatch the target, and both will retreat out the west end to the getaway horses. This has to happen extremely quickly. Anything that slows this part of the plan down can make the whole operation go bits-up.
Team C will be stationed at the west end of the gorge. As soon as the target is in hand, they will provide covering fire for Team S as they escape. Everything from here on rests on Team C. While the enemy is caught in the confusion as they realize they are being attacked from behind, Team D needs to make their escape. Leave everything and get out. Team C will provide suppressing fire until Team D has retreated, then get the hell out of dodge.
The rendezvous point will be two miles away at a nondescript bluff. The entire ambush team is to meet there afterward.
Specific things that go on within your particular team, like who stands where and does what, will be left up to you guys. There will be one thread for each team, all going simultaneously.
WHERE THINGS CAN GO WRONG
Erimond is an arrogant asshole and a coward, but he's not an idiot. He also has 100% control over his mage escort. If Team D's aggro is unconvincing, he may refuse to leave the gorge and surround himself with mages who fight to the death, making his capture way bloodier than it should be. If Team S is detected before they can secure the target, they may have to fight and lose the target altogether as Erimond hides behind his escort. If Team C can't get the enemy's attention, Team D may be unable to retreat. And those are just the major ones. But don't worry. No plan of battle survives first contact with the enemy anyway.
IT GETS WORSE
But remember how in Dragon Age: Inquisition the mages with Erimond in the Western Approach were binding themselves to demons? Yeah, our heroes don't know why Erimond is in the Western Approach. So to make matters even worse, all of the enemy mages will have an accompanying lesser demon, with the exception of Erimond himself, who is not bound to any demon. The team will be able to see these demons coming on the road. Fortunately, demons are as distractible as any person, while being slower to react, so the plan still holds, but the stakes will be doubled.
Tagging Etiquette
Because this is a fast-paced plot, in order for this to play to a conclusion instead of hanging out in DWSpace limbo, please respond to your tags within a day of receiving them.
With all that in mind...
Because the pace of this log will be pretty breakneck and the risks are high, I have a wee little plot permissions form I need y'all to fill out. This will save time while we play this thing out. Please note that any wounds inflicted upon your character will not necessarily be of the highest allowed severity you choose; this is just a boundary for me not to cross as I GM this thing. If you want something specific, please PM me or send me a private Plurk (toriangeli @ plurk). Wounds fall into four categories:
Minor - Mostly superficial, no recovery time needed
Moderate - Needing immediate first aid, short recovery period, minor scarring, plenty of opportunity for H/C without much impact
Severe - Life-threatening or somewhat disfiguring, long recovery period, physical therapy required, concussions come with minor brain damage
Grievous - Life-threatening or disabling, long recovery period, possibility for accompanying psychological trauma, concussions come with significant brain damage
Capture - If you choose to have your character captured, they can be rescued along the road to Adamant. If they are taken all the way to Adamant, however, they will have to wait until the Inquisition proper gets to Adamant to be rescued. This would require a hiatus for the March 15-April 15 AC period, with the expectation that you will make AC for the periods before and after. If your character is a Mage Warden and is taken all the way to Adamant, they will be bound to a demon and become a thrall of Corypheus, so don't choose that unless you're planning this to be an endgame for your character.
Remember that we do have a combat medic

or, if they insisted she not go and she heard the report about demons, she would get very very frustrated that she didn't go as she could have attempted to undo the bindings (given that her father used to bind and banish unwanted spirits/demons for the mortalitasi which is a skill he in turn taught her). telling her to stay and finding out how badly* (*depending on how bad that is) it goes and what she could have done might sour her relationships with her superiors which i'm not so sure i'd be willing to play out, unless she had something else warden related to do, is what i'm saying? i'm open to options/ideas here.

Tori might have other things to say or it might be something we all need to discuss together, but Valeska's Watch is going to be an ongoing problem in the Emprise and require attention/supervision from Wardens until the Deep Road entrance is sealed, so there's that!
