Sashamiri War Table Assignment: Wheel Of Blackmail

WHAT: Unscrupulous Orlesian academic Cedric Marquette is helping the Venatori and Faderift would like him to stop. As we're not going to be able to outbid the Venatori for Marquette's services, and we certainly aren't going to be able appeal to the angels of his better nature ... time to identify and lean on some leverage points.
WHO: Members of the Scouting and Diplomacy divisions. (If your character is neither but you want to make a case for them to join, you can do so in your sign-up.) Characters will be assigned to teams of two; pairs can sign up together if they like, and will otherwise be OOCly assigned to another person whose approach matches theirs.
WHERE: Mainly the Free Marches, but if any pair gets motivated to take a trip to Orlais, that is also on the table.
HOW: Depending on the characters who sign up and/or player desires, this plot is designed to involve spying on targets close to Marquette, pumping said targets for information directly, or a combination of the two. As always, I'm keen for you to thread things you're actually interested in, and this plot is designed to be fairly flexible, but I'm happy to help talk through ideas and can provide a variety of targets related to Marquette to choose from depending on the flavor you're looking for.
DEADLINES: Please sign up by June 1. I'm aiming to get the log up around June 4, and the report will be due June 30.

Character: Ellie
Division: Scouting
Spying or lying? Spying, or playing bodyguard-backup/emergency extraction for anyone who might be lying. Flexibility!
Signing up as a pair? N/A
Notes: Invisibility and knife tricks.

TARGET: I have a few possible targets in four potential areas: academic-adjacent, market-adjacent, Marquette's employees and Marquette's family. (If you want to go wild and suggest someone else out of full cloth, that's allowed too.) While no two teams will have the same individual target, there are enough options in each category you can pick whichever category you like best without worrying about what the other teams pick.
In the next day or two, please check in with each other and see whether you have a feeling about which way you want to go. If you don't have a feeling, I'm happy to roll you something random! If you want to be more involved in picking your individual target, hit me up on plurk (
I'll set up an overarching post sometime this weekend. You can feel free to jump in, or if you'd like me to set up some kind of starter, let me know. Note that you do not have to NPC your target (though you can if you want to); if you'd rather play fallout, or planning, or anything adjacent, go wild.
RESULTS: Roughly around Mon., June 28, I'll roll to see if each team succeeded. Every five comments will grant you "advantage" (i.e., I'll roll an extra die and take the better of the rolls). Unlike dnd, the number of dice is not limited; if you go wild and have a 50-tag thread, I'll roll 10 dice, look at you go. I'll get the results to you and create a collaborative document so we can make a "report" that's just a few sentences from each team.
If you have questions, concerns, anything else, please don't hesitate to hit me up. (Also available for some light NPC running/input, with the caveat that I'll be traveling for about a quarter of the month so you probably shouldn't use me in ways that would hold you up.)

Character: Yseult
Division: Scouting
Spying or lying? Both/either!
Character: Evelyn Farrier
Division: Research, but as a Lord of Fortune (and her team's resident artifact nerd) she could potentially have some sort of industry contact or expert knowledge or something that could be useful
Spying or lying? Either, whatever makes sense as a situation Julius would be willing to assign a non-spy to
Notes: I'm hoping she could be paired up with somebody who does have spying/lying skills but needs some specialist knowledge or introduction Evelyn could provide? But if this doesn't fit with what you've got planned, no worries! Also if you only have room for one I'd probably prioritize Yseult, but I'm flexible.

Spying or lying? Both is good, but lying is probably more her wheelhouse
Notes: As a Tevene mage, Lalla could probably fake being Venatori pretty convincingly.

If you'd like more details or to further discuss, lmk, but otherwise feel free to run with this and make up things more or less as desired.

Spying or lying? Both/either; whatever makes sense for Julius to assign him to. Definitely from Tevinter and can't fake not being from Tevinter (his accent work is stunningly bad). Book/chantry history and linguistics nerd, so might be a qualified bullshit detector if said bullshit happens to fall within his wheelhouse.
Signing up as a pair? Nope, randomize me baby
Notes: If you end up with odd numbers, feel free to cut me.

If you lean toward yes, you can see the details in any of the other comments on this post and we can start plotting. I'll be around this evening and most of Sunday, as well as in and out on Saturday.
