Bastien (

Clarisse la Rue (

Viktor (
grindset)
Isaac (

They were never here. You’ve never met. Your characters don’t remember anything about them.
What about NPCs / animals / records / their stuff?
Animals and NPCs don't remember them, either.
Their stuff is here, but characters will face an overwhelming urge to write this off or explain it away.
You can implement this however you like, and however your character’s brain would try to smooth things over. Inconsistency is a feature, not a bug.
For example: Lazar is overconfident, so he remembers making Viktor's inventions himself.
But another character might also believe that they made those things, or that they were purchased, stolen, have just always been there; etc.
Upon reading reports or records of forgotten characters, others will need to overcome a strong mental block. They will have trouble explaining who those mentioned are, and must reconcile the written word with events they have an entirely different memory of.
For example: Julius was a mage, and Seneschal, but this must be referring to former mage Seneschal Pizzicagnolo. And there was no Clarisse driving the chariot race.
Figuring it out:
Feel free to have characters notice inconsistencies, come to their own conclusions, brainstorm solutions, etc.
Riftwatch will not be able to end the effects early, but memories of the affected characters will return after a week IC.
This doesn’t have to happen at the same pace or time for everyone. You can also remember some details before or after others. Whatever!!
The forgotten team:
You were looking into Venatori time magic experiments. You dealt with it, and their attempt at a time bomb; culminating in a surprise, final confrontation before you were quite ready. The details are weirdly fuzzy, and your stories may contradict.
Upon leaving, you’ll find everyone has forgotten their past interactions with you. This will last about a week IC.
You remember each other, and your friends at home, perfectly. *
* It will take a week for you also to remember that Isaac exists and was on the mission with you. He disrupted the device. It’s unclear what happened after.
