MOD POST ↠ April Updates

APRIL (CLOUDREACH)

ORGANIZATIONAL/OOC UPDATES

OOC Calendar

We have a calendar for 2017/9:43 here. The previous calendar is linked from that page and will remain available for reference. Please refer to it for our OOC and IC schedules, and make sure to add any player plots or major events your organize to it as well!

Application Cap & Cycle Changes

We're making a few adjustments to our application system, beginning next month.

First, we're raising our per-player character cap to four. As with third characters, players must have passed AC with their existing characters during the most recent month in order to app a fourth. Our other limits remain in place.

Second, beginning in May, we'll be handling native and rifter applications separately. Applications for native characters (OCs, Dragon Age canon characters, and AU'd characters from other canons) will always be open, effective May 1. We'll process applications on a rolling basis and respond to them as quickly as possible. Reserves for Dragon Age canon characters and AU characters from other canons will last one week before expiring.

Since rifters require an arrival event and we've had a low volume of rifter apps, rifter applications will continue to only be open during a specific app window, and we'll be opening them only bimonthly. We'll accept rifter applications May 1-5, as usual, and then accept the next batch July 1-5. Bimonthly arrivals will hopefully give us a greater ability to make arrivals unique and potentially weave them into plot events.

To accommodate these changes, we'll be creating new application and reserve pages and moving some things around, so please pardon our dust in the meantime.

Minor Rule Change

With the new move away from Skyhold and its safety and large civilian refugee population, PCs will no longer be allowed to be guardian to anyone under appable age (16). We'll grandfather in those who already exist (or are about to be born, as it happens), and this rule will not apply to any Dragon Age canon characters who are canonically the parent or guardian of a minor, but new child NPCs will not be allowed. This is to preserve the game's intended wartime atmosphere and our ability as mods to imperil the game's characters during gamewide plots without putting anyone in the position of looking irresponsible for having children on site. While we can work with the small population of children already present, this wouldn't remain the case if that population grew. This doesn't affect the use of child NPCs in plots -- you can of course still RP rescuing orphans, you just can't adopt them when you're done.

PLOT/IC UPDATES

Kirkwall Transition

The move-in plot in Kirkwall ICly continues through the 20th, after which PCs can begin moving into the Gallows. The IC post for the move-in plot is located here with information about the progress of renovations and various issues the Inquisition will encounter on arrival. As a reminder, all PCs must have arrived in Kirkwall by the end of April.

To go along with the setting shift, we've put together a new setting page with basic information about Kirkwall and the Inquisition's base within it. We're working on some additional changes to our setting pages, including phasing out detailed information about Skyhold, adding more information about the Inquisition's other keeps and regions where it remains active, and a timeline of previous game events. We hope to have everything done by the end of the month, coinciding with the deadline for characters to be in Kirkwall. In the meantime you may find some broken links or unfinished info pages hiding around the mod account—please bear with us until everything is done!

Divisions

Information on divisions is now available! We've created a new page for it. Take a look at that page and then please comment below, on this post, with what division each of your characters belongs to by the end of the month. We'll be adding a field to applications and redesigning the taken page to include this information beginning with May's app round, so this is just to get all of our current players accounted for.

IC, this shouldn't be a new concept for your characters. We hope that characters have already been working on things like this between plots, but we thought some OOC formalization of who is doing what would help everyone feel more grounded in their characters' daily lives—focusing your RP on recreational time is fine, but there's a war going on and characters should really be fairly busy in the background!—and support new CR building and new kinds of RP.

This is also the first part of our plan to add new IC organization elements and let characters have more IC authority. We don't want to overwhelm everyone now, but in May, once everyone is settled and signed up for a division, we'll provide details about specific plot-related projects and open IC leadership applications for both divisions and projects.

Our previous attempt at IC leadership (direct reports and liaisons) will be replaced with this new system, but those characters are encouraged to apply for the new roles or to continue liaising as part of the diplomacy division if they like.
