MOD POST ↠ IC Leadership Reminder

Applications for IC leadership close on May 15! We don't have applications for most of the positions, so we wanted to clarify a few things just in case anyone felt intimidated or unsure of how things would work if they applied.

First, we want to underline and bold that your characters are the only characters who can take these positions. Our PCs are pretty much the entire population of the Inquisition's new outpost. There are no NPC veterans and experts. So if your character lacks directly relevant experience, that's okay—chances are, no one else has more. If the position isn't something that they would ICly volunteer for or feel qualified to do, that's fine, too. They'll be assigned it, and they'll have to learn to do it. It's 100% fine if you RP your character not being sure what to do or needing time to get used to giving orders. We think (slash hope) that part of the fun of this will be letting people throw their characters into leadership roles and making them grapple with that IC whether they're fully prepared for it or not.

Second, we wanted to elaborate on what taking on these roles would mean.

Division Heads are in charge of their respective division's personnel. IC, that means:

• Deciding on the division's priorities and war-related preparations, directing members on what to do during crises/major plots, etc.

• Reporting directly to the advisors at Skyhold.

• Deciding on discipline for people in their division if there is a problem.

• Appointing others and delegating as needed—they can pick a second in command, hire a secretary, etc.—as well as pointing new recruits in the right direction or training/mentoring.

• Oversight of division personnel and efforts/plots outside the scope of projects, including receiving reports from other characters about their missions.

• High-level oversight of two projects housed in their division as well as any base operations within their purview.

• Having a fancy office suite in the Gallows.

OOC, in practice, you'll be handwaving a lot of things—there's no need to file actual reports with the advisors, for example, or write an actual budget for your department. It's more about the chance to RP your character as a leader. They can feel underqualified or stymied by a lack of resources, they can butt heads about priorities with other division heads, they can come up with ideas to support projects, and obviously you can propose player plots or recommend war table operations and assignments that represent missions your character would send their people to do.

Additionally, to help you let your character lead, we'll give you previews of major plots and ask what orders your characters would give. For example, if we plan for aliens to invade Kirkwall, we'll tell division heads in advance; they'll then be able to tell us that the Forces Head would command the guards to leave the Gallows to protect civilians, while the Diplomacy Head would send a delegation to try to talk to the alien leader and keep everyone else in the basement for safety. We'll then incorporate those orders into the plot so players know what their characters have been instructed to do. And before you get scared, while this might influence the overall outcome of a plot or what specific missions we offer within it (such as a closed group for the Diplomacy Head's delegation), we won't set you up to fail—like choosing between Amaranthine and Vigil's Keep or the Mages and the Templars in the game, it will affect the world, but we won't trick you or let you accidentally get everyone killed.

Project Leaders, meanwhile, take on smaller teams with specific focuses. We chose projects that represent the different major elements in our overall plot plans—and remember we're in AU territory, not following DAI, so projects that don't seem hugely important based on canon will be more prominent in our version. Project leaders' jobs will entail:

• Deciding the project's priorities and sending members on missions or in pursuit of certain information.

• Holding IC meetings (or closed crystal discussions) for people on the project to talk about their efforts/missions and discuss what to do next.

• Keeping tabs on submitted reports and research so your character can be the go-to expert on what's going on with the overall effort.

• Setting up work spaces (if needed) for the project—a meeting room, a smaller library, whatever is required.

• Having a personal office that's slightly less fancy than the division heads'.

Setting priorities might sound scary, but it isn't! We'll also sometimes give you a list of potential war table operations related to the project and ask which one your character would prioritize right now, and that will be the one we offer to players. For example, we might give the Northern Powers project leader a list of several people in different countries who need to be investigated, and then we'll create a war table operation or assignment for everyone based on the one the leader chooses to send people after first. Your choices will help steer the plot, but this isn't a matter of right decisions vs. wrong ones. Every choice will have different consequences, but we're not out to trick you into accidentally getting Skyhold blown up and your character blamed for it, or anything like that.

You can also always submit player plot requests or suggest your own war table operations and assignments based on what your character would send people to do.

We hope a few more people are encouraged to apply! We guarantee it will be fun, or your money back. If you're still on the fence and have questions about how the roles will work, what a specific project might involve, or anything else that would help you decide to put an app in, please feel free to ask us! We're happy to help either in comments here or on the Mod Contact.
