    New Activity Post

Our two-year game anniversary is on October 16th, and we've decided to celebrate with… a new activity post! (Yes, we're a lot of fun at parties.) The new post includes a few formatting changes that will make checking AC easier for us (and by us we mainly mean K2, who is an angel), so please make sure you read the instructions and follow them when reposting your header comments, then post your AC there starting this month.

If you're transferring a point balance or just want to be able to find your old AC, the old post is here. You're welcome to link to your old comment in your new one so you can reference it.

    Plotting Reminders

We have a lot of new players and new plots on the horizon, along with diving back into mod plot, so we wanted to post a couple reminders about how to help us encourage plot participation and make it as easy as possible for people to get involved.

First: If you're plotting or discussing something relevant to the wider game—especially project or division work—we strongly encourage you to move that discussion to the OOC community rather than Plurk or Discord. We know a lot of plot discussions start out as people spitballing on the game discord or in their personal Plurks, and that's fine! But some project members may not have Plurk or Discord, or may be in different timezones, and so forth, and when everything is done on Plurk it's very easy for people who would otherwise like to participate to accidentally get left behind. For work related to the mod plot it's especially important to us that everyone be able to participate equally and stay on top of what's going on, and it's also important for us as mods (and for future players) to be able to track what's happened in the past, even if the players spearheading it have since left. So we hope you'll please do your best to keep substantive plotting on the comm, even before you're at the stage of posting sign-ups/plotting post for a specific plot or event. And by the same token, we encourage everyone to track the OOC comm, or specific tags within it, so you don't miss out on plotting posts!

Second: Remember that the vast majority of characters working for the Inquisition in Kirkwall are PCs. Part of the reason we moved the game to Kirkwall was to isolate player characters from the huge cast of NPCs that necessarily call Skyhold home, and allow our PCs to step into roles or learn skills that might in the past have been covered by more experienced NPCs at Skyhold.

So, while we allow NPCs, please exercise restraint in creating and using them. Day laborers, dock workers, cooks/maids, etc., are fine, but more skilled NPC Inquisition members should be used as sparingly as possible, with preference given to forcing PCs to learn those skills themselves first. If you do invent NPCs to fill important holes in the PCs' skill sets, please be prepared to send them away (or kill them off) in favor of PCs as needed. Our goal is to never have a situation where a PC is being told their help is not needed because an NPC has it covered, or where we're hearing players saying that they would get their character involved, but they have no experience and surely there's a more qualified NPC who makes more sense. Believe it or not, your characters really are the best people the Inquisition has around. ICly that may be a terrifying thought, but OOCly it's much more fun.

    Administrative Notes

At this point we believe we've cleared every player plot and mod contact or FAQ question in our queue. We apologize to everyone for some of the prolonged delays! If you're still waiting on a response to something, please edit the comment or reply to it to notify us that we missed you.

    IC UPDATES

    Plot Updates

The island plot is ongoing and the four player-led plots have been distributed and are either underway or getting there, so keep an eye on the OOC and log comms if you're looking to participate in those! ICly, participating characters should return to Kirkwall by early Harvestmere. However, logs in the second island plot log will count for October AC, even if they were started in September, as long as they're tagged the required five times during October.

We also have a number of exciting player plots coming up. If you're looking to participate, check the OOC comm for sign-ups! If you're running one, please make sure it's on the calendar. Again, we don't care much about specific dates or overlap between plots, and if you'd like your character to participate in a new plot that starts before another one technically ends then that's fine, but we do need to know the chronological order in which they occur.

    New Leaders...

Projects are always open for new members! We also have a number of project leader slots still available--anyone interested in signing their character up should submit an application on the Leadership page by the end of this month. The next round of appointments will be made in December.

This month, we're pleased to welcome an additional IC leader. Effective immediately, the following appointment will be made and announced IC:

  • Thranduil, head of the Research division

    ... And Their Ramifications

As you may have noticed, this means that after a recent rash of new appointments three of the four Division heads in Kirkwall are rifters, while the fourth is a Dalish elf. The Inquisition overall remains thoroughly human and Andrastian (and obviously so do its four leaders back in Skyhold), but the fact that the group in Kirkwall is being visibly led by such foreign entities has not gone unnoticed by the locals. With Commander Cullen's departure back to Skyhold coming right on the heels of this final leadership appointment, there is an unmistakeable rise in tension. Your characters may notice an uptick in rumors overheard in taverns about the Inquisition as a whole or about particular members, an anonymous conspiracy theorist is papering Lowtown with misspelled flyers, some local merchants have cancelled contracts, and local allies may begin to express some concern about the Inquisition's direction and their continued ability to publicly support an organization being led by three people who for all anyone knows could be demons and a bloodthirsty wood-elf.

Rifters in particular may experience increased hostility when out in the city, or even among the day laborers working for the Inquisition. They won't encounter mobs or people looking to beat them in the streets, but people will be colder and more likely to treat them like foreigners who are up to something, as opposed to more harmless curiosities. There may be a few who go further--refusing service, shouting about demons in their midst when rifters pass, etc.--but for the moment these open displays of ill-will are still few and far between.

Whether Kirkwall's mood continues its downward slide or is returned to normal remains to be seen, and will depend on how this budding problem is handled. If your character undertakes any significant efforts that might alleviate the situation or make it worse--more significant than just being nice to the poor in Darktown or smiling extra wide at a mean merchant, that's assumed!--let us know via the plot page so we can take that into account in the future.
