a party to prove that we probably aren't all demons
The division heads are working together with the Viscount to throw a party for certain members of the Inquisition, and the nobles of Kirkwall. The idea is to introduce the two groups to each other and hopefully show the nobles that the Inquisition has plenty of perfectly nonthreatening members who are well behaved and probably not demons.
This party is far more of a political function than anything recreational, so the division heads will only be inviting people who have proven able to favorably represent the Inquisition. Rifters will be under tighter scrutiny than natives, and only rifters who have learned how to successfully pass as a Thedas native will be allowed to attend.
Characters who have been known to be a political risk or tend to proclaim opinions that are unpopular with nobles will not be invited. If your character wouldn't be invited / wouldn't be interested in this sort of thing, there will probably be things to do for the lower class members of Kirkwall later on down the line (or you can set up your own thing for it!)
If you're not sure if your character would be invited or not, feel free to ask.
We will be NPCing various members of Kirkwall nobility, and your characters will have the opportunity to speak with them, and put those diplomacy and political skills to the test. The nobles will need to be reassured that they're not speaking with blood-thirsty demons who are likely to murder them and their families in their sleep, and that supporting the Inquisition will be a politically sound strategy.
Invitees will be reminded to hold themselves to certain manners of conduct. While drinking is fine, being drunken is not. Light debate may be acceptable, but nothing that resembles any robust arguing. Any characters who step out of line during the party can expect to be escorted away and summarily punished the next day.
Towards the end of the party, the division heads and their staff will step away with the Viscount and his staff to speak privately. During this period, there will be an Incident with a particularly out-of-line noble. The invitees will have to decide how to handle him without ruining everything that they've worked for the entire night.
Edit: Belatedly, there aren't any hard caps, but we're going to ask that people restrict themselves to one character per attendance, unless they have two characters that would both need to go (as division staff, etc)

Van might be politically inconvenient as a rebel mage, but he is a diplomatic attache to Petra, so would he/could he be there in that capacity? He definitely knows how to put on a front and be on excellent behavior.

vandelin has an automatic in because he's petra's attache, she'd definitely be fine with him attending (if probably on a bit of a short leash to see how he handles it), but i think simon would also go on the shortlist of "won't embarrass us in public" so whichever you would prefer to play in the scenario would be A-OK, let us kno :]

Extremely polite Chantry-loyal mages?

(1) Jehan: Pros include that he is Chantry and nobility and really very good at talking to people/smoothing feathers/etc., cons include that he is Orlesian and the Inquisition is sort of perceived as an Orlesian organization and Kirkwall has a history of Orlesian occupation, and also there's really no need to prove that Orlesian Chantry Brothers aren't demons. Probably.
(2) Alistair: Pros include name recognition + Archdemon stories + making the Wardens look harmlessish, cons include he could only behave himself in like forty-five minute increments and would then need to step outside for fifteen minutes to make gagging noises.
(3) Kostos: Pros include... few, he's Nevarran if they want to look international, and if he just doesn't talk he won't offend anybody probably. Cons are everything else.

With Freddie, pros include that she is an actual baroness, so her involvement looks good and also she knows how to conduct herself at this sort of event and mingle with these sorts of people. Cons include contributing to the image of the Inquisition as an Orlesian organization, and being kind of a wildcard who can't be counted upon to take direction from anyone, should there be direction to take beyond 'don't fuck this up.'
Nell is more of an unknown quantity since she's come to the Inquisition so recently, but pros include her being a mage who has demonstrated on the network that she's capable of civil conversation with a wide range of people, and Circle training (especially in Nevarra) means at least a rudimentary grasp of formal etiquette. On the other hand, in addition to not much being known about her, she's no noble, and will not know which fork to use or have anything in common to make smalltalk about.
I can OOCly promise that neither of them will blow anything up, but no hard feelings if they're not high on anyone's list.

Re: Sign Ups!
Pros: extremely pretty, very polite, apolitical and unlikely to get into touchier subjects, has a growing reputation for putting down demons and selling very useful medicine.
Cons: passive-aggressive little shit, strange and uncanny even by rifter standards, kind of a creep and probably won't do much to deter the idea that rifters are demons, just there for the food rly

Pros: Polite, friendly, will not make a political hash of things, happy to assuage people's fears and debate more chuckleheaded ideas about the Inquisition in a genial way.
Cons: Not enough eye, naive.
i mean i know i didn't need them but i wanted to list them anyhow
