Hi everyone!
This is a TLDR post concerning an effort that is being run as part of the Chantry Relations project, however is open to people outside that project. I’m going to pop it behind a cut, but it links to education & apprenticeship initiatives for Kirkwall’s Alienage and Darktown.
The first and most important point is, however, that although this is designed as an opportunity to bring some different solo efforts under one umbrella, there is zero ooc/ic pressure or expectation that people do so. Keep doing what works best for you and your characters, but if this plot would be of interest then that is super awesome.
Short version:
Characters work with some Chantry brothers and sisters to try and bring more opportunity and education (and agency, but that might be glossed over when charming the Chanters) to the people of Kirkwall who have been disadvantaged.
Longer version:
After communicating with the Hahren and community leaders within Darktown, the group started doing some literacy/numeracy classes with a few others, along with classes in other useful skills (such as swimming & carpentry) to help offer the people of Darktown and the Alienage some education and skills that they may not have had access to otherwise. While this obviously can’t resolve the many complex issues at hand (and it is not the only effort to this end), these skills can make getting through day to day stuff a little easier, and could have more long term benefits.
They have also been starting to help organise some apprenticeships and (non-combat) training opportunities for people from the Alienage and Darktown. These are not done through the Inquisition directly, but by offering incentives and preference to contractors who take on apprentices from these disadvantaged areas.
Through the work on the memorial, the Chantry Relations project has come into contact with some Chantry brothers and sisters and Kirkwall community members who have also done some work to teach the city’s poor and have offered to combine their efforts.
It will not be a formal school or anything of that sort, but it will be lessons offered in the Alienage and Darktown, with a space in a Gallows warehouse sometimes being available when it is not required for other things.
GOALS:
— bring some educational efforts under an umbrella for a combined effort, maybe very slowly get some resources and have improvements happen
— improve Inquisition/Chantry/local native relations through a combined effort that aids locals
— some improvements to opportunities for the poor and disadvantaged in Kirkwall, within reason
— maybe some gradual improvements to human-elf relations in Kirkwall
— maybe helping natives to learn a little more about rifters in a positive context, should they choose to be involved
It’s very much in its baby stages, and there’s no rush to make a decision if you’d like your character to be involved. It’s the kind of stuff that’s sort of difficult to RP in action, and would more be RPed about in discussion (I imagine, but I am also open to suggestions there) and will very much be a sort of backburner project for gradual improvements, etc.
Just to reiterate what I said at the beginning: this is by no means intended to be the only voluntary educational or aid effort in Kirkwall (I know a few different people mentioned them on the CR meme) and if you don’t want your character’s efforts to become part of this then it is totally cool. However, if you would like them to engage with it, please fill in the form below:
Character:
Division:
Projects:
Involvement: Subjects or practical skills they could teach? Would they be teaching, or would they be helping with other stuff out from time to time? Would they be focused on the Alienage or Darktown or both?
Notes: Anything else?
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me over here.

Division: Forces
Projects: N/A
Involvement: Teaching elven kiddos in the Alienage how to read/do basic mathematics!
Notes: Charis the dragon would like to come along for kids to play with. I imagine the adults would be wary to FUCK NO about this at first, so if we could somehow icly make that more plausible...? idk i just think elf kids playing with a baby dragon would be cute, okay
no subject
I think there would definitely be a lot of concerns about Charis, and given that there are Chantry sisters and brothers involved and that collaboration is still new and fresh, Herian might be like "Maker no" about the dragon being present at least for a while, so things can have a chance to get off to a smooth start before bringing in elements that could stress people out. It might be worth running past the mods what sort of reception Charis would get in the Alienage, and then we can go from there?

Division: Forces
Projects: Chantry Relations
Involvement: GIVE ME WOODWORKING STUDENTS OF ALL AGES AND LOCATIONS. She'll also teach beginning architectural design to the older kids.
Notes: *grabbyhands*
She will respectfully offer that it might be a good idea to have the Darktown kids and Alienage kids work together on a larger project that she's happy to oversee to build (haha) unity and tolerance.
no subject
That's a cool idea, definitely something to keep the the mods appraised of I think, and depending on the scale/location may require permission? But it's a cool idea and I like it. When you have thoughts on what that project might be we can figure things out from there :]b

Division: Research
Projects: Rifts and the Veil (leader), Red Lyrium
Involvement: (alienage-based) Assistance in literacy classes (children and adult) when she has the time, also quietly on the lookout for budding mages so she can direct them toward solid assistance.
Notes: Garahel would also like to play with the children/anyone with a good throwing arm. (She might have a long-term plan to get people used to mabari and then introduce pups that are available for imprinting, to further assist with alienage safety.)
no subject
Division: n/a
Projects: n/a
Involvement: offering literacy/numeracy lessons to children from her home. lessons start with bathtime and a hot meal and a run around her garden, so they're also kind of a "bribe kids into looking forward to learning" thing as well.
she can also offer a crash course in non-magical first aid, probably to teenagers/adults?
Notes: given her current situation, this is more of a "Gwenaëlle will get to this when she knows for sure whether or not she still lives where she lives" rather than a "thing that is happening right now".
no subject
Division: Forces
Projects: Naval Presence, Northern Powers.
Involvement: Idk, probably assistance with construction/rebuilding, as need be?
Notes: n/a
no subject
Currently there's no plans for construction/rebuilding, this particular project is more focused on the education and linking people up with apprenticeships side of things. Would Korrin be interested in teaching people skills related to construction, like carpentry and stuff like that?
no subject
Division: Scouting
Projects: Elven Artifacts
Involvement: Literacy lessons (for both kids and adults) and babysitting kids at the alienage while their parents work. She's also willing to teach elven to any elves, but it's just open invitation and she doesn't push them to learn it.
no subject
Division: Research
Projects: Rifts & the Veil, Red Lyrium
Involvement: She will probably most useful on the "rifters are not scary!" front, though if you get her around kids for any length of time, science will probably happen.
Notes: Because she's a rifter and not on Chantry Relations, she's going to step carefully, but she's happy to help as much as she's asked to.

man that scene was really cute but also I feel that Cosima flexing is the best thing

Division: Forces
Projects: Chantry Relations, Red Lyrium
Involvement: Arranging incentives via Forces contractors. Available to make polite Chantry noises when necessary.
Notes: Will not be directly involved in any contact with students.

Division: Diplomacy
Projects: Elven Artifacts, Base Operations
Involvement: T...aking... classes. Also a city elf (tm) to make nice with people when necessary.
Notes: He'll be hanging on the outskirts of any actual tutoring, since they're intended for non-Inquisition members.
no subject
Division: Scouting
Projects: None, honestly.
Involvement: Alienage and Dark Town teaching reading, writing, math, AND different languages, as well as animal handling, and if you can believe it, sewing.
Notes: Adasse is already helping out the alienage kids when he can with learning how to read and write - but with actual support he'll be more than happy to start teaching language as well. He will NOT be teaching them how to steal.
no subject
Division: Diplomacy
Projects: Chantry Relations, Other Powers
Involvement: Could lend extra Chantry legitimacy and maybe pull together and copy appropriately inappropriate reading materials or primers. Could also teach but would not be ideal for it compared to the other volunteers probably, unless there’s someone who needs to learn esoteric history for some reason.
Notes: Feel free to shuffle him off to the side where he can’t accidentally offend anybody.
no subject
Division: Research
Projects: Naval Presence and whatever his friends are doing
Involvement: TEACHING. despite his competency in fields more practical (like construction and architecture), Val is here to teach both the appreciation of and writing of poetry in the style of Orlais, the historical significane and aesthetic arrangement of flowers, jewelry design using scavenged materials from nature and inspired by early funerary artifacts typically discovered in thaigs, animal tracking with an emphasis on observation and sketching and NEVER hunting, and individualized and personalized design of the spandrel to be used as a flourish in construction design work.
he has contacts at the University still who owe him favors OR are angry with him but possibly could be coaxed into cooperation, so if there's books needed, he could borrow them. he also has a decent personal library and an encyclopedic knowledge of the texts that he has, but most of it is in storage in Val Royeaux.
Notes: in the interest of expanding the minds of the poor unfortunate poor, Val is committed to teaching the most superfluous stuff. there are hundreds who can build a wall. how many out there can write a sonnet.

Division: Diplomacy
Projects: Naval Presence & Chantry Relations
Involvement: swimming lessons and involvement in ship/boat building projects when those come up as well as being a rifter with good standing for nearly three years
Notes: good with all the other things we discussed and she's with chantry relations anyway I can't remember where the thread is of the discussions right now sorry!

Division: Forces
Projects: Base Ops, Rifts & Veil
Involvement: Technical skills, teaching people how to fix broken things and scrap other broken things to make new stuff, maybe even getting into rudimentary mechanics (nothing fancy but like, pulleys and stuff, anything available) for making lives easier around the poorer neighborhoods.
Notes: Rey is already someone who walks around Darktown and the Alienage without being terribly afraid because she's just more comfortable in shitty parts of town. She'll be boosting rifter relationships, whee
no subject
Division: Research
Projects: Rifts & Veil, Chantry Relations
Involvement: Can...sort of...teach numeracy. Happy to give lessons in the Chant (caveat: may contain mild heresy), basic history, other oral stuff that does not require reading or writing; also will give lessons in gardening, pl0nt maintenance, beekeeping. Also available to field questions on magic in a safe way, reduce fears about mages, and keep a low-key watch out for baby mages who may need help/direction to people who can train them.
Notes: i love your face ♥ and Myr has already been spending time in the alienage now and again, volunteering at tasks he can manage and generally being friendly with people as well as bringing small gifts of food and supplies (bought with his own stipend; he's not thieving from Inquisition stores for this!!).

Division: Research
Projects: Northern Powers, Corypheus' History
Involvement: As noted previously, Anders has been running his Clinic as a school as well for months and has for over a year spoken about education for non-mages alongside mages. There's been some logging done with this, and I'm definitely up for continued logging on it. There is room for lessons in his Clinic if people want to teach their class there, or want to find students there, or just network, and there are ongoing lessons in reading, writing, numbers, and geography. He's also teaching there when he has the time, the aforementioned subjects as well as basic magic foundational lessons.
Notes: He's got connections in Darktown from 7+ years of being down there and working with its people.

Thanks for replying with your interest! I think it could be cool if we can find a way to bring these together that makes sense, although there is the obvious concern about a project specifically involving collaboration with the Kirkwall Chantry and Anders, as well as teaching magic. What are your thoughts on how to get around that?
no subject
Regarding Anders, it's a matter of practicality. He is here and has been doing this, as you're aware, and it's something that would be smart to reach out to him about. The Chantry and him are not on particularly friendly terms, but if the focus is the disadvantaged of Kirkwall then it doesn't seem too far out of left field to suggest the who can be ignored more for the end result and stretching resources further.
Regarding teaching magic, it seems preferable that young mages have a way to learn basic control rather than running around without that. It's just foundational stuff unless they have a penchant for healing, and it's crucial as some young mages aren't gonna go to the Gallows or Skyhold or 'official' places to learn. It meets a need.
no subject
There's nothing stopping individual characters from contributing to both projects, if we do decide they're better off separate. It could even be good to have two different avenues, since characters like apostates and rifters might be extra distrustful of the Chantry.
Let me know when you hear back from the mods, and we can take it from there!

Division: Scouting
Projects: Elven Artifacts
Involvement: Focusing on the Alienage specifically. He'd want to mainly teach weapons skills - archery and swordsmanship - but, if doing it with the Chantry peeps, would call it skills for hunting. Also, teaching legit skills for hunting, scavenging, gathering, trap making, and general nature surviving things. His goal is to give these people the tools they need to just leave the cities, instead of suffer in them thinking they have no other choice.
Notes: He probably won't get along well with the Chantry people, and won't make any special effort to either. If he'll be too much of a problem, it's totally cool, he'll probably just do the same things on his own, just not associated with them, sneaking in at night 8T bc he's sketchy like that.
no subject
And my general thing really is like I'm cool to handwave them getting along fine, but if he'd outright go up to them and insult them and cause problems that would jeopardise the success of the project then the might be... made to leave. We can just see what happens tbh.
no subject
As for getting along with people, NAH, he won't be starting anything. He'll just probably tell any Chantry people that try to be friendly with him to immediately fuck off 8| But he's not likely to outright antagonize, especially if he's getting resource benefits from working with them.
