WAR TABLE ASSIGNMENT: MENDING RIFTS

WHAT:
A smattering of Rifts anomalous to Riftwatch's tracking methods have been reported in or near pastoral Antivan population centers with bizarre regularity. Members of Riftwatch have been ordered to travel to the affected area to both find and seal the rifts, and to help repair damages inflicted on various picturesque Antivan farming communities by the sudden proliferation of demons.

But when a Chantry Sister confronts the members of Riftwatch with a potentially explosive accusation—threatening to not just publicly lay responsibility at Riftwatch's feet but also to drastically damage the organization's reputation when she claims to have witnessed a member of Riftwatch open the Rift that ultimately drove her, her Sisters, and their congregants to abandon their little pastoral Chantry—, the efforts in the region quickly pivot to figuring out who this Mysterious Member of Riftwatch is and where they'll strike next in order to intercept them.

HOW:
The log will be split into two parts:

A general mingle log open to all Divisions focused on cleaning up the countryside, either by closing Rifts or assisting the affected locals in the region. During this mingle log, characters will have an opportunity to uncover clues that will eventually lead to being able to intercept this Mysterious Riftwatcher and [Mysteries Yet To Come], or to make significant impacts toward preserving Riftwatch's reputation. No need to sign up for this, but if you nab a clue or do something to build a lot of good PR, we'll have a space provided to claim those plot achievements.

A showdown between members of Riftwatch and scoundrel sullying their name. This is closed to 2-4 members of Project Haven and/or Forces Division. If you want to get involved but aren't part of either, you can join Project Haven at any time by adding your character's name to the project page or by indicating in your sign-up form and we'll do it for you.

These parts will run concurrently so no one has to be agonized about an unsolved mystery for weeks, but don't let that discourage you from recovering clues in the mingle log. That will be important for the results of the plot and [Yet Again, Mysteries Yet To Come].

WHO: Everyone and anyone, but especially Project Haven and Forces Division.

WHEN: Sign-ups for intercepting the Mysterious Scoundrel close on June 7th, and we'll (Maker willing) have the log up on July 8th. Everyone will have through August 5th to claim their plot impacts, and an official report will be filed afterward which reflects the results (y'all are off the hook for report writing).

WAR TABLE ASSIGNMENT: MOTHER MAY I

WHAT: Remember that time when Mrs. Fitcher orchestrated a kidnapping and extricating Marcus from it resulted in an accidental templar death?

It turns out the Chantry wants some answers about that!

A representative of the Chantry, Mother Pleasance, has been dispatched to Riftwatch to review operating procedures and ask questions of Riftwatch members to achieve a better understanding of how such a situation occurred. Mother Pleasance is coming to the Gallows to occupy one of the guest suites, so get ready to have a Chantry Mother in your midst, Riftwatch.

WHO: EVERYONE.

This is fully a choose your own level of participation plot, but be aware that Mother Pleasance will be in the Gallows and taking notes.

HOW: CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE!!

Option 1: Fill out the form below and we handwave any actual interactions with Mother Pleasance. You can decide if Mother Pleasance has a nice conversation with your character, a not so nice conversation, whether your character helped her carry her books or joined her for morning prayer in the Gallows Chantry, etc, etc.

Option 2: A thread with Mother Pleasance. You can request Mother Pleasance drops into an ongoing Gallows thread, or your character seeks her out to run interference, or Mother Pleasance specifically engages your character for an interview, what have you.

Option 3: No need to interact directly with Mother Pleasance, but maybe you want to thread out any of the preparations or reactions to her ie stashing questionable materials and/or individuals out of sight, prepping and practicing for interviews, keeping her out of the Research department, etc, etc. Think of all the shenanigans that go in the Gallows daily and think of how you'd like to keep an old lady from seeing them. Tons of background tasks, the world is your oyster here.

Option 4: Brainstorm a way to get one over on Mother Pleasance, or otherwise facilitate getting her out of the Gallows and delivering a good report to her superiors.

Option 5: Whatever I haven't thought of but you might want to do, holler.

Drop your comments / questions in the threads below!

WHEN: Mother Pleasance will arrive March 1st, and an intended departure date of March 31st. No one is responsible for a report, I'll write one to wrap things up at the end of the month.

WAR TABLE ASSIGNMENT: RED(CLIFFE) OYSTER CULT

WHAT: Knowing that Brother Gideon came to Riftwatch by way of the Chantry in Redcliffe, the decision has been made to chase down further details on his associations and determine whether the threat has been neutralized or if there is lingering danger that will need to be addressed. Teams will be dispatched to search the Redcliffe Chantry for any signs of cult activity.

HOW: A group will be dispatched to present themselves at the Redcliffe Chantry seeking to renew and/or establish a diplomatic relationship with the leaders there. They will be offering assistance with any issues in the area that might be troubling the Redcliffe Chantry or the town itself, as well as attending Chantry services and any other functions being held during their time there. Basically, the goal is to ingratiate and be useful, while using the opportunity to search for any evidence of a cult operating in Redcliffe.

WHOMST: Priority given to members of Project Jeshavis and Project Haven, and to members of Diplomacy Division and Scouting Division. If you would like to participate but aren't a member of either project, you can join at any time by adding your character's name to the relevant project roster. Or you can indicate interest in your sign-up form and MJ and I will do it for you.

HOW: Players will be provided a log with several different scenarios characters will be participating in + information that can be discovered. Everyone will have access to the information that can be found, and it's up to y'all to decide how they go about uncovering the items without creating diplomatic incident and upsetting the Redcliffe Chantry leaders. We'll lay out the places to be searched, and it's up to the characters to decide their approach.

Characters can also make positive Chantry contacts in Redcliffe. If you want your character to make a fun new Chantry friend, make sure you include it in the report for future mischief.

In addition to the log, we'll also be tossing up a rookery post for characters to compare notes long distance or aide each other in creating distractions and facilitating sneakiness. Characters can also report to Bastien and Derrica any findings.

WHEN: Sign-ups close 8/1, a log will go up 8/5.

If requesting NPC services, I'll make myself available to provide them up until 8/27. After that, you're on your own. A report for this assignment must be filed no later than 8/31.

WHAT: The Inquisition has learned that a certain Grand Cleric of the Tevinter Chantry may be sympathetic to the cause of overthrowing Corypheus. Since Riftwatch is a more neutral party and uninvolved in the Exalted March, the Inquisition has asked them to send a team of agents to meet with the Grand Cleric and see what he has to say.

To allow everyone to travel safely and secretly, the meeting has been set near the border outside Perivantium. The Grand Cleric and Riftwatch’s agents will all pose as pilgrims to a set of obscure ruins in the isolated mountain village Cubentquium, where a late summer festival is set to begin. How quaint!

WHAT?? Not actually quaint though, sorry. This plot will focus on folk horror with elements of mystery, as everyone’s carefully laid plans go rather awry.

I will be scaling the level of horror to accommodate people's comfort levels as best I can, but if horror is not your bag, please rest assured there will be other opportunities to engage with this Tevinter Chantry intelligence in the next few months.

WHO: 3-5 volunteers, at least one of whom should be a diplomat, but members of other divisions are easy to justify too — spies to help keep their cover, forces to protect the team in enemy territory, researchers to help them establish Chantry nerd cred, w/e.

WHEN: Sign-ups run through Sept 12, and the log will go up Sept 18.

SIGN UP HERE or toss question at me in the comments.

Sign ups for the June/July assignments for the Diplomacy Division have just been posted. (My goal is to try and do these every two months, but I might tweak that a bit depending what's happening and what works best.)

As there is currently no leadership for Chantry Relations or Other Powers a few of the missions are themed around those projects, but are open to sign ups regardless of the projects people are signed up to, so long as they are in the Diplomacy division. There's a few things to fight in these missions, including me for not coming up with better puns.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

ETA: if people in the Chantry Relations or Other Powers want to sign up to those but aren't in Diplomacy then tbh I'd be totally down with them signing up given the circumstances but just adding a note clarifying

Please note that if your character is currently working on an assignment (all reports for previous assignments are due by May 21st) you can’t sign up until that report is submitted.

Sign ups are for project members only, but if you would like to join the project then please do so over here.

Hi Chantry Relations members,

I have once again followed along and been inspired by MJ's wisdom and excellence, so now the Chantry Relations page has a thread for assignments and missions. The first set of assignments have been posted, and sign-ups close on April 10 (except for one which closes on April 5).

My goal is to try and post a new set of these once every couple of months. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi everyone!

This is a TLDR post concerning an effort that is being run as part of the Chantry Relations project, however is open to people outside that project. I’m going to pop it behind a cut, but it links to education & apprenticeship initiatives for Kirkwall’s Alienage and Darktown.

The first and most important point is, however, that although this is designed as an opportunity to bring some different solo efforts under one umbrella, there is zero ooc/ic pressure or expectation that people do so. Keep doing what works best for you and your characters, but if this plot would be of interest then that is super awesome.

Hello hello,

I am wholesale ripping off MJ’s excellent ooc post idea and doing something much the same for the Chantry Relations Project. Herian has just stepped into the leadership role for the project, and I have an IC post planned but thought having some for pinning down ooc elements would be handy.
Chantry Relations Project page & sign up
Though still reeling from political crises and the loss of Divine Justinia, the Chantry remains the most powerful institution in Thedas, and its relationship with the Inquisition has always been ambiguous at best. It is imperative that the Inquisition work to clarify and improve that relationship lest the Chantry turn its considerable influence against the organization. Working with the Chantry is also the Inquisition's best hope of shaping the ultimate outcome of the Mage/Templar conflict and the future of both the Circles and the Templar Order.

First up.
Herian has some negative personal attitudes when it comes to certain people (notably the Dalish and Resolutionist Libertarians, among others).
Please know that ICly this will be managed by her sense of duty and the requirements of her role being more important than her personal feelings, and OOCly I’m also more than happy to figure things out, so please don’t hesitate to sign up even if you have concerns about your character and Herian’s ability to get along and their involvement in the project. My priority is making sure people feel comfortable and involved in this project even if ICly our characters like each other 0%.

the rest is going being a cut because of my chronic tendancy to TLDR. )
