MOD POST ↠ AUGUST UPDATES
MOD ANNOUNCEMENTS: AUGUST
ORGANIZATIONAL/OOC UPDATES
Upcoming OOC dates:
Due to some OOC schedule changes (detailed below) and our general behind-ed-ness this month, the calendar and IC news post are currently out of date, but we'll be correcting that ASAP and will update everyone when they're ready!
New Plot Schedule & Structure
Now that we have a decent number of IC leadership roles filled and people seem to be more comfortable with plots and information flowing through Divisions and Projects, we've revisited our initial hopes and dreams for that system and are going to make some changes to how we've been doing things that will bring us closer to our original plan!
Most notably, to facilitate player impact on plot outcomes, we're going to transition to a three-month mod plot cycle rather than a two-month cycle—which doesn't mean two months of downtime, in case anyone is about to panic about being bored! Our goal is to structure everything so everyone can have the time and information they need to work on project/division assignments and player plots/initiatives that can directly impact upcoming mod plots. It will look like this:
MONTH 1: The Chill Month, akin to our current off-months between bimonthly mod plots, useful for backtagging the previous mod plot, doing your own thing, scheduling major player plots that you want to be sure don't conflict with anything else, throwing a party without feeling like your character is being a slacker, having a mental break, etc.
Toward the end of the month, sign-ups for assignments and missions from Divisions and Projects will go up. Some of those assignments and missions will be based on leads we've provided IC leaders for action items/opportunities that could potentially impact the upcoming mod plot. For example, if our plan is to send everyone to Par Vollen at the end of the cycle, one of the Diplomacy Division's posted assignments might be a plot that will allow PCs to be the ones to schmooze their way into an invitation from the Qunari, rather than our current system of handwaving that an NPC reached out to someone. Others may involve other preparations, negotiations, information-gathering, etc., the success or failure of which will influence how the plot unfolds. And there will still be assignments and missions that don't have anything to do with the upcoming mod plot at all, too, like normal.
MONTH 2: The Assignment Month! This month will be about the smaller plots described above that build toward the major mod plot event. (You're also always welcome to do unrelated player plots and assignments, as usual.) Generally, characters will become ICly aware of the direction we're heading early in the month—that there's trouble brewing in Antiva, that a Divine Election has been scheduled, etc.—and there will be a little more time for characters to decide to do something about that, and by the same token, time for players to submit and run player plots or let us know that your character has gone rogue and is conducting a one-man letter writing campaign prior to the official plot. (You will have to work with us a little here. If we're planning to send everyone to an island, we won't be able to let you run a player plot to sink that island into the sea and make the plot impossible. But we might be able to let your character go there in advance and set it on fire, adding "deal with giant fire" to the things other PCs will have to do when they arrive. We'll deal with proposals on a case-by-case basis, as always.)
MONTH 3: The Mod Plot Month! At the beginning of the month we'll take stock of everything that was done in Month 2 (which is why it will be exceedingly important that people file reports for assignments/plots flagged as mod plot-relevant by the end of Month 2) and shape the culmination of the mod plot to take what everyone has done into account. Sometimes that will mean everything goes really well. Sometimes it will mean things go really poorly. In either case we hope it will be more the product of everyone's efforts (or lack thereof) instead of something that we decide arbitrarily from Mod Mountain.
If this looks like a lot, please trust us that it will be pretty simple in practice! And if you're playing an IC leader and are confused about what this means for you, hang tight—we'll have more information for you shortly.
Since we just decided to do this last week and are also really behind on some other mod housekeeping (hi, D&D players, we haven't forgotten you), the first cycle will begin in September, meaning our next major mod plot won't be until November. But we'll be slipping in a smaller event or two in the interim so you don't feel unloved.
MAGIC TEXTING FOR MAGIC PEOPLE
In case you missed it, we now have magical book texting available as an option for the correspondence comm. In the future there will be innovations to this and some security measures and so on added to allow the books to be used for serious information and removed from the Gallows (i.e. more like the usual network text posting we're all used to), but until then, enjoy a month or two of experimental doodly anon mayhem.

Information regarding the non-project roles can be found here. That's also where new leaders can double-check the requirements for their characters' positions and who they report to!
