CLOSED QUESTS ↠ EMPRISE DU LION, PT. 1

QUEST SIGN-UPS: EMPRISE PT. 1

Quests for Emprise du Lion will be split into two phases. This is the first phase, which is focused on action-adventure. Depending on the outcomes of these quests, the involved locations will become available for open RP and exploration afterwards--we'll add new top-level comments to the Emprise du Lion post as that occurs. The second phase of quests, which will be posted in February, will focus on new discoveries and consequences/resolution in the areas that are opened up through these first-phase quests. Characters can participate in both phases.

Sign-ups for this phase will close on January 29 at 11:59 pm EST. Quests will be distributed via RNG if there are more volunteers than slots. All plot logs will be posted simultaneously and forward-dated to the listed IC dates. (Look, we have a calendar!)

Breach Valeska's Watch

Valeska's Watch is a Grey Warden outpost that was built into the ground directly on top of an entrance to the Deep Roads that was used by the darkspawn during the Third Blight. Since the Wardens withdrew to the Western Approach, it's been locked and left empty. Your characters will be asked to find a way inside to see if any useful information or supplies were left behind, as well as to check the structural integrity of the walls blocking the Deep Roads entrance.

IC DATE: Guardian 13
PARTICIPANTS: One team of four, with up to two slots reserved for Grey Wardens.
LOGISTICS: The team will need to decide in advance how to access the fortress. From there, we'll provide a mod-written starter that outlines the setting and what the characters will face, as well as at least one additional GM comment once they've progressed through the first area.

Destroy the Red Lyrium Quarry

The Inquisition's prompt arrival in the region has caught the Red Templars off guard and unprepared. Their attempt to mine the red lyrium infesting Emprise du Lion is still in its early stages, with the focus primarily on carving through the rocky hillside to access deposits rather than removing and shipping them out. Stopping this endeavor before it gets too far is a high priority. So is securing the release of the imprisoned villagers who are being used to mine the red lyrium and slowly dying of overexposure to both the lyrium and the elements.

IC DATE: Guardian 18
PARTICIPANTS: One team of four or two teams of three, depending on interest.
LOGISTICS: The team(s) will need to decide in advance between an open assault on the mines or a stealthier approach. We'll provide a mod-written starter that outlines the setting and the forces the characters will face, as well as at least one additional GM comment when the characters reach the center of the quarry.

Take Suledin Keep

The bulk of the Red Templars' forces are occupying Suledin Keep, an ancient elven fortress. They're taking orders from a suspicious man in plain clothes and holding a number of giants captive. After the attack on the quarry, they will pull into the fortress and fortify their defenses. The bulk of the Inquisition's forces will be participating in the assault on the Keep (with an open post for anyone who wants to be in the fray); the closed aspect of this quest is for three specific pieces of that assault.

IC DATE: Guardian 23
PARTICIPANTS: Three teams of three, with a guaranteed spot for Michel de Chevin if he wants it.
LOGISTICS: The three teams will each be given a different Important Task to accomplish during a broader assault on the Keep. We will provide periodic GM comments to aid in coordination, NPC the surrounding Inquisition forces and opponents, and keep things moving.

DRAGONS!

The dragons on the other side of Drakon's Cleft (we know) are a menace to both the Inquisition's forces and to the routes that the Inquisition is clearing in order to restore access to Sahrnia. Please go take care of them--preferably without destroying the ruins they're occupying.

IC DATE: Guardian 28
PARTICIPANTS: Three teams of four. At least two of these teams will need to consist of characters capable of fighting a dragon directly; a third may be set aside for characters who might want to come up with an indirect approach, depending on interest.
LOGISTICS: Each team will simultaneously take on a single dragon--the thinking being that this will keep them each too distracted to come to one another's aid. We'll provide mod-written starters that set the scene and a brief OOC summary of the dragons' behavior and tactics, then leave controlling the dragons to the players. At player request, we're also happy to run RNG for the right to the final blow.

ASSIGNMENTS

Assignments are listed here! Please make sure to get in touch with your group mates either on plurk (if you have everyone added there) or via the linked comments soon, even though these events are forward-dated, so you can coordinate and ask us any questions that arise in advance if possible.

  • Notes: We had more volunteers than slots this time, so unfortunately not every character is included. Please keep in mind that there will be additional opportunities for involvement, including a second phase of quests focused on exploration and discovery once the dust has settled in these four areas! The dragons were in particularly high demand, so for future dragons we'll make sure people who haven't had a chance yet get preference.

We did manage to include every player at least once. (We had to add an extra slot to do it and can't guarantee it will work out in the future, but this time it was only one additional player, yay!) If you volunteered multiple characters and want to swap your unselected character into your current character's quest slot, we can do that, but we can't shuffle anyone between quests or allow you to trade spots with other players. If you do want to swap characters, let us know here ASAP.

    Suledin Keep Swap

    [personal profile] el_tybs 2016-01-31 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Hi mods. If possible I'd like to swap Sam Gareth with Garris Vakrie for the Suledin Keep (team two Imshael) quest. If not it's cool, but figured I'd ask anyways.

I'm really sorry, but is there a way Anders or Cade can be swapped from West to East? Cade recognizes Anders.

Herc will be carting in his fancy sword and shield, and if the mods are okay with it, his Mabari hound as well. (If not maybe we can say Max is having a day to recover from an injury and that's why he's not there, or something, whatever works.

He could bring along a few basic healing potions, but beyond that he's not going to be heavily weighed down with supplies.

    And in terms of smashing in doors vs. picking locks, he'd probably be pro kicking the doors in, unless they have speedy rogue type with them ;u;

Ellana will have a fire staff, 2 health potions, and 2 lyrium potions. She'll be wearing this light armor because she can pull the kerchief over her nose and mouth. Darkspawn blood is no bueno to non-Wardens. She's for picking the lock if it turns out Melys can do that, but if not, then she guesses they'll smash it open and announce their presence.

Melys will be in favour of picking the lock (in case they need to close the door later), and can do so pretty quickly.

Inventory: Cutlass, knife, picks, short length of rope, a small vial of spider antivenom. She will not be bringing her arm.

Amor: Light, with gloves and a mouth covering because Ellana has the right idea, lmao.

um excuse there's nothing embarrassing about wardens. so says the most embarrassing warden, who is a little embarrassed of wardens.

TEAM I TOWER GO putting this here to keep us separate from our good friends TEAM II

inventory: 2 daggers, one short and one slightly closer to small sword-sized. 1 set crappy slightly mismatched armor (some pieces of which were "borrowed" from Rafael's armor). a heavy cloak with a lot of interior pockets. a bad sword. 1 set of lockpicks, also "borrowed" from Rafael. also less consequentially he has a pair of warm magical boots; this is only important to mention because you'll all be spared a great portion of his complaining.

far more consequentially: Scipio is great at lock-picking! so he'll be all for picking the tower door. unfortunately he only has one set so, sorry team ii, y'all on your own.

Kas has two standard Inquisition daggers and a bow (minus fire rune) he got from Korrin.

Kas will suggest the sneaky route but he'll go with what the other two choose.
    resought: (Default)

    [personal profile] resought 2016-02-01 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
    SNEAKY ROUTE. obviously.

Evie has a lot of weapons hidden in her coat; specifically for this, due to sneaky, she will opt for throwing knives (as many as possible which she'll try to reclaim, no more than fifteen at this time however), her palm sized knife for assassinating, and her canesword, though she won't be using that unless they blow cover and there's no other options. She'll also have her lock-picking tools, a single potion, and a detailed plan that they absolutely in no way will deviate from.
justice_is_blond: (Burn let it all burn)

    [personal profile] justice_is_blond 2016-02-01 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Anders definitely approves of being sneaky. Templars can drop a mage, for one, plus they're going to be outnumbered.

He'll have a basic staff, a lyrium potion or two depending on availability? as well as a few health potions and bandages for when he gets exhausted or when others are free to help with those sorts of tasks.
    judgemewhole: (Default)

    [personal profile] judgemewhole 2016-02-04 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
All right, Norrington is about being sneaky ... well as sneaky as a Templar can be. He's well aware he is going to be taking the brunt of the attacks, what with Anders and Varric (we still switched teams, right?) being somewhat squishy.

    Norrington will have:

    - Healing potions.
    - Lyrium potions, for himself and for And-WE MEAN DETLEF.
    - His silverite sword (which I am going to stick a rune in as soon as I can afford one.)
    - Templar shield.

Sorry in advance that Detlef will be unapologetic about Norrington taking the brunt of everything...

That's fair. Norrington will be unsympathetic when the public lynches Detlef SO. Yeah.

in the lead up, perhaps we could also do a thread w michel contextualising dorian (and garris [or sam]) on imshael? IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO, MICHELPLAYER, no pressure, going in blind and screaming is certainly how i play most video games.

Please forgive her, Metaari, she has a chip on her shoulder about Qunari.

LET'S DO THIS. Korrin will be pumped for this, and ready to defend her teammates/show off her new spirit blade.

Assuming all goes well, there so needs to be a celebration for all involved.
    wontforgetyou: (ooh)

    [personal profile] wontforgetyou 2016-01-31 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
That is an excellent blade and it will be good to have as part of the mix! And a celebration would be also excellent as well, assuming everyone gets through this in one piece. Any general ideas how we want to approach things or would people prefer to wait for the starter?
    gatheringstorm: (battle)

    [personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-01-31 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Korrin's best on the front lines, now that she's a Knight-Enchanter. She'll slice away and keep renewing Barrier as often as people need it.
    wontforgetyou: (hmm)

    [personal profile] wontforgetyou 2016-01-31 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
While Jamie's preferred style is to jump into the fray, he doesn't have any specializations to draw on (yet). However, he is fairly mobile, and able to switch between darting in and striking and usimg ranged weapons and/or grenades - assuming we have access to some. But it seems a couple of those could be useful here, potentially, and already knowing there's a dragon here, it would make sense to go in with as much firepower as they can muster.

And healing potions if it's possible since they miiiight need them.
    gatheringstorm: (interested)

    [personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-02-01 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see why they couldn't make a batch beforehand, since there are potion tables at every camp. Healing Mist grenades would be ideal, since they could heal multiple people at once if they're close enough to each other. Korrin will try to remember to keep a few on her, but the more who have them, the better. (In-game, the limit was 3 per person, which seems fair.)
    stabsbooks: (warrior princess)

    [personal profile] stabsbooks 2016-02-01 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Cassandra is, well, Cassandra, which means front lines and being more than able to hold her own. It looks like everyone'll be able to get pretty close to the dragon, which I think should be ok since Korrin can cast barrier on everyone at once.

KAIN IS SO READY FOR THIS!!!
