[player plot] from riftwatch with love

Hi Fade Rift. It's me, Abby. I come bearing plot.

WHAT'S GOING ON: A quiet day in the Gallows is interrupted when a mage shows up claiming to have been betrayed by Riftwatch, who then promptly becomes an abomination and goes on a rage-fueled rampage.

Discovered on his body (or you know, whatever. rip) will be correspondence ostensibly by "Riftwatch" offering him and his wife protection, along with a still-active phylactery. A team will be dispatched with the phylactery to track down a second mage and discover her in the custody of Templars.

Drama! Adventure! Some spy stuff!

HOW WE'RE DOING IT: Part One (abomination time in the Gallows) will be an open event log for anyone who wants to indulge in some abomination-related drama. I'll be RNGing who gets to strike the killing blow (see below for sign-ups), but feel free to assume you'll be able to use this space to get hurt/help your friends/put out fires/whatever. If you don't care about finishing off the abomination, no need to sign up; feel free to just show up for a bad time.

Part Two will involve a small group of 2-4 player characters tracking down the second mage/dealing with Templar shenanigans. Signups for this will close on 7/25 and rng'd if there's more interest than there are slots. At this point, I'll send everyone involved a little questionnaire, nail down the specifics, and do some dice rolls (the mechanics of which will be explained in more detail with the questionnaire) to determine the outcome. I'll post a log for this, but will not be NPCing and someone involved in the investigation will have to file a report for it, so please be prepared for a little leg work if you want in on Part Two.

WHO'S IN TROUBLE: Part one will be open to everyone. Part two will ostensibly be Official Riftwatch Business, but ultimately is open to anyone who feels like tracking a mage down as no one will have an exact picture of what they'll be walking into when they get to Lady Mage. Scouting/Forces/Diplomacy types seem like the obvious go to, but if you've got a nerd who seems like a good fit for x y z reason then have at it.

SO WHEN ARE WE DOING THIS: Sign-ups for dealing the killing blow on the abomination will close on 7/31.

Sign-ups for Part 2 are open from now until 7/25, at which point participants will be RNG'd (max 4) and with a questionnaire/dice roll mechanic info distributed to the team to go over and come up with a game plan. I'll need the game plan by 7/31.

Open log for Part 1 will go up on 8/1. Closed log for Part 2 will go up on 8/8.

Character Name: Matthias
Strengths: a mage -- so like magic but would also "diplomatically" advocate for reasoning with other mages, out to help rescue
Weaknesses: a mage -- so like very sympathetic to other mages and their mage problems, and very anti templar. to that end OBVIOUSLY he's a known mage sympathizer, might destroy the phylactery and freak on the templars.... so if he gets passed over, he'll be mad but I would understand. I'm not an unreasonable teen
