WAR TABLE MISSION: DIPLOMACY

DIPLOMACY MISSION: House Flip
WHAT: Lord Peter Hastings, a Marcher lord who was always a little haughty but who was pretty staunchly pro-Riftwatch, made some moves in the recent Tevinter invasion that made it clear that his pro-Riftwatch stance wasn't so staunch after all. Agents were sent to his estate to investigate what caused this change of allegiance, then came back like 10 minute later because it's REAL obvious what did it: Lord Hastings has engaged the services of a Tevinter mage - almost certainly a blood mage - to make his estate fuckin POP. It looks GREAT.
If things were a little more stable, the solution would be simple enough: arrest Hastings for collaboration and for apostasy. But things look pretty rough right now - so the agents sent to the Hastings estate have a choice to make.
HOW: First, the group will have to decide how they want to solve the Hastings Problem. There are two possible solutions:
Ethical solution: Ingratiate yourselves to Hastings while uncovering his wrongdoing and coming up with evidence of what he's done. If this is the route the group pursues, then a success means that Corypheus will lose an ally in the Free Marches...though so will Riftwatch.
Fabulous solution: Approach Hastings and present him with a plan for decorating the the manor in a way that doesn't rely on blood magic and makes that apostate flee in shame over his lack of style. If this is the route the group pursues, and the group succeeds, Hastings will re-ally with Riftwatch, but will go unpunished for the lives he allowed to be sacrificed in the name of decor.
Success/failure will be determined by rolls, modified by participants' charm or sense of style (respectively).
WHO: 3 Riftwatch members can sign up, with preference given to members of the Diplomacy division. At sign-up, you'll vote for which path you want to take.
WHEN: Get your sign-ups in by end of day EST, Sunday, September 12.

I'll set up a thread amongst the three of them discussing how to meld their personal sensibilities into a style that works - and that wows their host. Please let me know if there are any other additional threads you'd be interested in playing out in connection to this plot (e.g., if Aleksei would carry out any investigations and you wanted to thread that out instead of handwaving, etc.).

He will attempt to steal any valuable that 1. isn't nailed down 2. looks as if it has been neglected, ie the kind of things that seem like no one is really thinking about regularly, anything in the attic or in storage that doesn't get trotted out very much. Huge focus on small items that fit in a saddlebag because he's motivated but not motivate enough to try to move a solid gold bust of the man's grandmother or something.

In amongst the things he steals will be proof of Lord Hasting's Venatori connections, and the fact that he allowed some of his servants to be sacrificed for his fashion. This will be enough to bring Hastings to justice. However, these documents are kept in a really expensive gold-plated book which will also be worth a shit-ton of money so, Aleksei, decide whether you want justice for a bad man or a shit-ton of money.

And Bastien would try to find someone or two in the household who seemed clever and disloyal enough to be willing to inform on Hastings after they left in case he decided to get up to anything else. No thread required but ๐๐

5. Style skill (on a rough scale of 1-10, with 1 being Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards and 10 being Cary Grant at a party): gonna go with an 8...? he was extremely concerned with aesthetics back home (still is, but lack of means & control here)
