diplomacy assignment-o-matic!



What is this? This is a chance to get a tailored-to-you diplomacy assignment! The details of it will be relatively underspecified and left to you to work out. The assignments will also be pretty low-level and chill - nothing world-busting, but instead just the regular work of the division.

Why is this? This is intended to serve one of two purposes: you can use this either to log/thread out if desired or just so you can know what your character might be doing as a background mission.

Who is this? This is for members of the Diplomacy division only. However, Diplo members can recruit non-Diplomacy folks to come along with them on their mission if desired. That'll be up to you to work out.

How is this? Fill out the form below and submit it to this post as a comment! I'll respond within a week. Sign-ups will be open indefinitely, but I may run out of steam at some point and stop handing out assignments. We'll see!

Character: Julius

Character's skills: Julius is actively proving his ongoing ability to liase with mages of a variety of political stripes. He also has some personal contacts in Ferelden and Antiva, and professional contacts in Orlais that could be drawn upon.
Character's likely standing in the diplomacy division: Julius is a workhorse and can be relied upon to do what he says. On the other hand, his hands are pretty full running Project Sashamiri, so he doesn't have the bandwidth of some other division members.
Any characters in diplomacy they would NOT work with? Nope, plays well with others.

Do you want your character to be paired with another character for this? Fine either way! (with the caveat below)
Do you intend to write this out, or will you be handwaving this assignment? I'm hiatusing for August, so this will probably be handwaved. However, if someone wants to use it as a CR hook and would be OK inboxing about it later or w/e, I'm perfectly open to that.
General plot desires: Julius has a lot on, let's give him one more thing to do.
Desired geographical focus: No preference! Given his status as a project leader, he's probably not gone for long as a rule unless it's a Big Mission, but otoh he can get someone to take him on a griffon within reason.

This month, Riftwatch will see a visitation by a small group of anti-Corypheus mages from southern Tevinter, whom Byerly will cheerfully foist off on Julius. These Tevinter mages are useful allies, as they have decent political connections; however, they're also extraordinarily snotty about all things Southern. Julius will find that they treat him super condescendingly because of his Fereldan origins. His challenge will be demonstrating that Riftwatch is competent (especially magically!) without losing all his patience with these assholes.

Character: Bastien

Character's skills: Businessman’s savvy, adaptability, dimples that would never lie to you, spy skills as diplomacy enhancements. A big grab bag of old friends/associates in Orlais and new ones in Kirkwall. Lots of people who are neither super fancy nor super shady, like nobles’ servants rather than the nobles themselves, starving artists/philosophers and wealthy disreputable gamblers, tradesmen and merchants, etc. But there are also some duchesses and thieves in the mix.

Any characters in diplomacy they would NOT work with? Nope! If there’s someone he dislikes he will work with them even harder.

Do you intend to write this out, or will you be handwaving this assignment? Write it out! Or if he’s going solo I will handwave the actual thing but write something adjacent to it, like complaining to someone about it afterwards.
General plot desires: I’m equally interested in things that are in his wheelhouse and things that would require stretching/suffering. Dealing with a minstrel whose songs portray rifters badly? Having to smooth over a problem with the world’s most condescending Riftwatch donor? Anything.
Desired geographical focus: Anywhere is good! Orlais is slightly fraught for him because he has two identities and both vanished on people without warning, but he can deal when he has to.

Bastien is going to be overseeing young Gela on her first mission! It's going to be a pretty simple one: she's going to be accompanying a shipment of silks to the de Maryac household, and receiving in return an elven bauble that was wanted by the research division. The de Maryacs are friendly towards Riftwatch, and this exchange was previously agreed-upon, so Bastien is basically there to make sure that she doesn't freeze up and has decent skills of charm and wit.

Bastien has also been asked to, if she seems to be doing quite well, throw her a curveball, which Byerly is leaving to Bastien's discretion - for example, pickpocketing the bauble as they're leaving to see how she deals with crisis, suggesting on their way back that they lavishly spend the money they were given for the mission to see if she stands up against his "corruption," etc. Have fun, cheri

Character: Gela

Character's skills: Hmm... WORD HAS IT (she has spoken to Marcus a grand total of Once) she is very good at being friendly and personable and chatting people up, keeping them talking. This could work as a distraction tactic or for persuasion/getting information out of a clamshell etc also she has travelled a great deal in the past and is open about this so it stands to reason she has friends in other cities if you catch my drift
