Araceli

Do you like puzzles? Do you like shipwrecks? Do you like both of those things? Well maybe you'd like to come on a little jaunt off to a shipwreck Araceli will be leading after some reports of unnatural lights causing boats to crash with sailors not returning and rumours of demons.

The crew will find a very old shipwreck inhabited by the spirits of the dead crew. Oh and good luck getting out, it'll take satisfying the spirits to move on first. Which means everyone needs to be working together to solve some puzzles to get off the ship.

I need five more people for this mission: a rogue, two warriors, and two mages. Preferably one mage should be a native mage with Fade Step. I was hoping to run this during May, since it'll just take an IC weekend and it's a puzzle dungeon it won't get in the way of the modplot, low pressure etc just have fun stuck on this ship doing puzzles to get out!

PLAYER
Name: Bella
Contact + Notes: PM & [plurk.com profile] karmacharging, also playing Alex, Helena, Herian & Marisol as mains & Étienne as my other side character.
Anything We Should Know: I almost always need more sleep.

(SIDE) CHARACTER
Name: Magni An Fjorleif O Talonhold
Info Page/App: here
Who They Are:
— Avvar! Hails from Talonhold in the Frostback Mountains.
— Affiliation with Varmas family - once of the smithing caste in Orzammar (a few generations back), those who have spent time in Skyhold in the past year or so might be particularly familiar with the name, thanks to the services offered by VARMAS & CO. MERCHANTS and the charming surface dwarves who run said company.
— Has been serving the Inquisition the last year-ish in Skyhold, relocated to Kirkwall outpost to increase their workforce there.
— Specialises in blade and weapon smithing. She can do stuff, but there's probably other people who specialise in them and they may not be her strength.
— Scary with a hammer.
— Doesn't speak. (Very often. May accidentally give the impression that she cannot, because she is very much a listener rather than a talker and has a dramatic throat scar.)

Where They've Been: Talonhold and the Frostbacks more generally, a few visits to Orzammar, Skyhold, a few other places when when requested to accompany Varmas & Co.

What They Want: She likes weapons. And making weapons. Please commission fancy weapons. Please let her upgrade your weapons. Let's save the world with better weapons. (Idk if her qualifications would extend to mage staves but I am super keen for that involvement and potential so like defs defs defs up for it if anyone wants potentially experimental staff times. At the very least she can upgrade and add blades.)

Plot & CR Desires: I am open to so many things! My hope is for her to be long term and to just see what happens. She's not super chatty, but if you're up for playing with a character who maybe emotes more than she speaks and is a good listener, let's do that thing.

Anything Else:

I am a fan of her face, tbh.

    App Cap Adjustments

We're making a few adjustments to our applications caps, both overall and per player. Anyone currently exceeding these caps will be executed at dawn grandfathered in.

First, rifters will now count toward our per-player caps on elves and mages. Rifters who are Thedosianized into elven bodies will count as elves, and rifters who have supernatural abilities will count as mages.

Our per-player caps on elves and mages are meant to keep the game from becoming focused too exclusively on those two groups and their issues and conflicts. Rifters identifying with native elves and mages and bringing their unique perspectives to the conflicts involved is awesome, but it also allows for the possibility that someone might play two native mages, then two rifters who identify with mages and champion mage causes, and in practice essentially have four mages. Or four elves. And then we would have no choice but to close the game forever.

Second, to compensate for how many rifters have powers but aren't as defined by them as others, we're raising the overall cap on mages to three, but still limiting native mages to two—so you can have two powered rifters and a native mage, or two native mages and a powered rifter.

Third, we're fixing the rifter cast cap at six characters per canon. This cap was previously based on a percentage of total rifters and would fluctuate with each app round, but it's less confusing for everyone if it stays fixed. If the game substantially changes in size, we'll revise it as needed.

Fourth and last, we're capping the overall number of rifters at fifty. As with our other caps, this one is for game balance reasons. Rifters are meant to be a cool, anomalous minority, and maintaining a majority of native PCs who are dealing with a smaller group of weird outsiders allows for an atmosphere and dynamic that can't be found in many other games. We want to make sure that atmosphere is preserved for everyone whose reason for playing here is because they prefer it to more standard panfandom/jam jar settings.

We're currently twelve characters away from that cap, and based on historical app and drop numbers, we'll be surprised if we actually hit it. But we want it to be there and for everyone to have fair warning of it, just in case. And if we do hit the cap, we won't cut off apps in the middle of an app round! Following a complete app round, if we do have fifty or more rifters, then for future rounds we'll transition to an app queue system similar to those used in games with overall player/character caps.

Our Rules and FAQ pages will be updated with these changes within the next couple of days!

    IC UPDATES

    Grand Tourney

Our mod plot this month will be focused on the GRAND TOURNEY. Undeterred by scattered rifts and the threats of war in the South and West, the party capital of the Free Marches, Wycome, is pressing onward with plans to host the Grand Tourney in mid-Bloomingtide. Frivolity aside, the tournament is a rare opportunity to address and impress important people from every nation of Thedas at once, so Skyhold will be ordering personnel in Kirkwall to go put in an appearance for the Tourney and the celebrations surrounding it. It will be a week of trade, dealmaking, Thedas' equivalent of fried twinkies, managing the tempers (and assassins) of various nations who are struggling to put aside their differences in the current climate of fear, and, obviously, jousting. More information will be available soon!

You may notice that this is a change from our previous long-term plot schedule! That's because we're approaching a point in the mod plot where it will be more difficult for the nations of Thedas to ignore or minimize Corypheus' threat, and we wanted to make sure we fit this in before then. We'll be headed to Tevinter in July instead and have adjusted the rest of the year's plans to compensate.

    Leadership Applications

IC leadership applications close on May 31. Our current vacancies are:

  • Diplomacy Division Head
  • Other Powers Project Leader
  • Base Operations Project Leader
  • Rifts & the Veil Project Leader
  • Assistant Project Leaders for every project except Elven Artifacts

Remember that the Inquisition's Kirkwall base is populated and run almost solely by your characters, with NPCs only around to do grunt work like guarding doors and cleaning. There is no one around with more experience than PCs. Characters without impressive resumes might still be handed leadership roles and told to do their bests. They do need to make some sense—people won't generally be given roles immediately upon walking through the door (or through a rift), a Dalish elf wouldn't be put in charge of Chantry Relations, and in general the people making these appointments aren't complete idiots—but don't hesitate to apply for something your character has the potential to be good at just because you don't feel they've accumulated enough XP yet.

Projects are always open to new members, and player plots related to project goals can be submitted by anyone at any time. And as a reminder, for your reference and to help you know what your characters are doing day to day, we have a breakdown of the divisions and projects and the work characters in each would be expected to perform.

    General Plot Reminders

Player plots are Fade Rift's backbone! Additionally, several projects and divisions are offering assignments, and we strongly encourage project members to collaborate on ideas for advancing projects' goals. You can also request information if your character is testing or researching something outside of specific plots/missions. And if your character does something around town that other people should know about, don't forget to let everyone know here.
