WAR TABLE ASSIGNMENT: RED(CLIFFE) OYSTER CULT

WHAT: Knowing that Brother Gideon came to Riftwatch by way of the Chantry in Redcliffe, the decision has been made to chase down further details on his associations and determine whether the threat has been neutralized or if there is lingering danger that will need to be addressed. Teams will be dispatched to search the Redcliffe Chantry for any signs of cult activity.

HOW: A group will be dispatched to present themselves at the Redcliffe Chantry seeking to renew and/or establish a diplomatic relationship with the leaders there. They will be offering assistance with any issues in the area that might be troubling the Redcliffe Chantry or the town itself, as well as attending Chantry services and any other functions being held during their time there. Basically, the goal is to ingratiate and be useful, while using the opportunity to search for any evidence of a cult operating in Redcliffe.

WHOMST: Priority given to members of Project Jeshavis and Project Haven, and to members of Diplomacy Division and Scouting Division. If you would like to participate but aren't a member of either project, you can join at any time by adding your character's name to the relevant project roster. Or you can indicate interest in your sign-up form and MJ and I will do it for you.

HOW: Players will be provided a log with several different scenarios characters will be participating in + information that can be discovered. Everyone will have access to the information that can be found, and it's up to y'all to decide how they go about uncovering the items without creating diplomatic incident and upsetting the Redcliffe Chantry leaders. We'll lay out the places to be searched, and it's up to the characters to decide their approach.

Characters can also make positive Chantry contacts in Redcliffe. If you want your character to make a fun new Chantry friend, make sure you include it in the report for future mischief.

In addition to the log, we'll also be tossing up a rookery post for characters to compare notes long distance or aide each other in creating distractions and facilitating sneakiness. Characters can also report to Bastien and Derrica any findings.

WHEN: Sign-ups close 8/1, a log will go up 8/5.

If requesting NPC services, I'll make myself available to provide them up until 8/27. After that, you're on your own. A report for this assignment must be filed no later than 8/31.

JESHAVIS ASSIGNMENT: DON'T GO BREAKING MY SOUTH

WHAT: A jaunt to Ferelden and Orlais to investigate the spate of coordinated attacks that occurred there during the invasion of the Free Marches. Assignments will be tailored to the folks who go, but they might involve wilderness tracking, talking to witnesses, reverse engineering attack plans, doing some magical scrying, etc. There's also an optional incident with GMed NPCs.

WHY: The recent invasion of the Free Marches was accompanied by small, coordinated attacks in Ferelden and Orlais: several small villages and their fields were recently set aflame, an important bridge over the Drakon River destroyed in Ferelden, a noble family and their entire staff found hanging evenly spaced from rafters in their estate not far from Halamshiral, etc. At the time no one was sure it wasn't the beginning of an outright invasion of the South, but it's now looking likely that it was a diversionary tactic. Riftwatch still needs to go check it out, though, especially since the Venatori have access to their own eluvians and there's a chance they still have hidden back doors into the South.

WHO: Up to four people, any division. The only universal requirement is being able to travel unsupervised in the South without causing a diplomatic incident.

HOW: There are two parts.
PART A: Everyone who goes (up to four people) will be given some information about the places their characters are visiting and what they find. They'll be doing this alone, but I'll set up a rookery post for them to talk to each other (and to Bastien, their guy in the chair), for both "I'm bored in this carriage" and actually reporting on what they find out.

PART B: Up to two characters will also have a GMed NPC encounter. It will probably involve some fighting, but the characters don't have to be combatants. All that matters is whether you OOC would enjoy making them fight, and I promise they won't die.

WHEN: For PART A, I'll give out the information by Wednesday (8/11) and stick up a post for talking about it, which everyone can do at their own paces forever.

For PART B, I'll put up a log by Friday (8/13). Part B will be GMed between 8/13 and 8/20, hopefully at a pretty quick clip. Anything we haven't finished as of 8/21 will be handwaved. So if you're planning to be gone that week, don't sign up for Part B.

SIGN-UPS close at the end of the day on 8/9.

DIPLOMACY / JESHAVIS MISSION: Mabari Crawl

WHAT: The well-liked Bann of Winter’s Breath, who’s been friendly toward Riftwatch and in favor of sending Fereldan resources to aid with the war, has been poisoned! Now she’s unconscious and fighting for her life (and already aided by a magical healer who is doing the most they can). The poison and its antidote are both the invention of a reclusive, famously cantankerous herbalist from the southern reaches of Ferelden. Because the Bannorn’s hale and hearty are already occupied, especially when a number of them off at the Exalted March, it will be up to Riftwatch to reach the herbalist and persuade her to help before the Bann succumbs, then gather the necessary herbs to do so. And they’ll have to do it using dog sleds.

If they succeed, once she regains consciousness she’ll hopefully be able to identify the person who poisoned her.

HOW: A core group of Riftwatch agents will be traveling by dogsled on the long haul southwards to recruit the herbalist to help and to get the recipe for the antidote. This will involve a certain amount of peril and drama: navigating winding mountain trails with steep dropoffs, fighting off wolves, cuddling up together to stave off the cold, marveling at the Southern Lights, etc. Once they reach the herbalist, they will have to pass a persuasion check: if they succeed, they’ll recruit the herbalist and the recipe; if they fail, they’ll still figure out the antidote, but will lose precious time in the process.

Meanwhile, others will need to travel by dogsled to an eastern wood to gather the ingredients for the creation of the potion. This will also offer daring adventures, but in a less structured and linear way.

WHO: 2-4 Riftwatch members can sign up for the Southern Expedition, with preference given to members of Project Jeshavis and/or the Diplomacy division. This will be more plot-driven RP, with limited NPCing of the herbalist.

The Eastern Expedition to gather ingredients will be open to everyone and will be free-form and unstructured.

WHEN: Get your sign-ups in by end of day EST, Sunday, November 29. The log will be posted on November 30.
