Plot & Quest Feedback
We're working on the game's second set of major plots and looking for some feedback! We know we have players coming from all sorts of different games with different ways of handling plots--and Cass and MJ's main RP/mod experience is in mu*s and forums--so we're still trying to figure out what combination of mechanisms works best for Fade Rift. We've been tossing around ideas to make quests run more smoothly in the future, and we'd like your thoughts. We've put up a poll here! If you have any questions or want to have a discussion here instead, feel free to comment to this post as well.
For context, our goal with the first set of quests (the Fallow Mire) was to give people as much freedom as possible; in the background, we had branching outlines for how the quests might progress depending on characters' choices. We'd planned on players asking questions based on what their characters would explore or pursue so we could provide additional information and adapt the quests to their choices as they progressed. We hoped to avoid being domineering or making players feel their characters' decisions didn't matter to the outcome. But looking at the results now, we think that in many cases we provided too little direction and wound up making participants feel lost. However we handle plots in the future, we still want to make characters' ability to change the outcomes of the quests a main priority, but hopefully we can find a better balance.

PLOT/IC UPDATES
The Month of Wintermarch
EMPRISE DU LION handily won both the OOC and IC polls, so the Inquisition will shift its focus to that region in Wintermarch. IC, the news of this decision will be rumor at first before it makes its way to the Inquisition at large. OOC, the new location information and quest sign-ups will be available after applications close this month (so we don't leave new folks behind). Until then, soldiers and scouts can expect to spend more time drilling outside of Skyholds' walls, so they can practice keeping their footing in snow and ice, and those of a more academic bent may be encouraged to help Christine Delacroix with her research.
Meanwhile, construction and repairs are still underway at Skyhold, and idle hands may be asked to pitch in. Characters with time to spare may also be sent to the Hinterlands to assist the refugees as they battle cold, food scarcity, and an upswing in bandit activity. Others may be asked to attend to Inquisition business elsewhere.
Tension between Templars and mages remains, and in the wake of an abomination attack in Skyhold, many of the fortress' laypeople will remain wary of the mages for some time. The Inquisition's Council of Magi has been working on a response, and the resident Templars are likewise beginning to organize.
And in case you missed it, there's a First Day feast over here.
Plot Reminders
We have a permanent IC News & Gossip page--we highly recommend tracking the page or specific comments so you can keep abreast of what's going on and using it to spread information you think other people should be aware of, particularly info related to plot.
If your character is pursuing an investigation or project that is still in its research stages and you need more information about what they'd discover, remember to use the information requests page. We've also received some great plot suggestions and player plot requests, and we encourage everyone to submit more.
The Council of Magi now has a separate journal for organizational purposes, as announced here. If similar player-run IC organizations need journals in the future, we're happy to help create them. Contact us if you're interested in setting one up.
