So, last October Beleth made this rookery post asking for suggestions and volunteers for trying to hide the anchor shards during sensitive missions where it might become an issue (or maybe because the anchor bearer doesn't want to advertise what they are). I submitted the possibilities to the mods and asked what kind of results each attempt would get, and I've gotten back the results.
Since it's been a while, I'm going to reopen sign-ups, and let you guys pick which one you want your anchor-bearer to try. It's up to you whether or not your play out your character actually wearing them--whether just in lowkey things like wandering around kirkwall and seeing if anyone notices, or during actual missions.
Sign ups will be open for about a week or so, after which I'll be putting up a network post where Beleth lists the options available and asks for volunteers.
Options
#1: Makeup
What it is: Makeup applied in thick layers to the part of the hand where the anchor is located.
Results: Like makeup in normal situations, it will be prone to smudging, being washed off, sweated off, etc, but can be viable as a short term solution.
Sign ups:
#2: Handwraps
What it is: Both hands will be wrapped in bandages thick enough to hide the shard.
Results: Works best when it appears to be used for utilitarian purposes: protecting hands from blisters during farmwork, etc. Probably won't throw off someone purposely looking for someone with an anchor shard, but will keep shard bearers from drawing undue attention.
Sign ups:
#3: Gloves resembling hands
What it is: A leather glove designed to look like the person's hand
Results: They'll look strange, and have seams that will be difficult to hide, but can work in short term situations where attention isn't being brought to the person's hand.
Sign ups:
#4: Gloves resembling prosthetics
What it is: A wooden glove designed to appear to be a wooden prosthetic for someone who has lost a hand.
Results: Will successfully disguise hand, but will also limit mobility in that hand, and the person using it will have to spend their time using it feigning that they have lost the hand. Will draw attention if used by more than one person in a group.
Sign ups:
#5: Hand patches
What it is: A patch that goes over the anchor shard, designed to look like a tattoo or scar.
Results: Will have to be thick in order to hide the shard, and have strong adhesive. Will not stand up to close scrutiny or touching, but will draw away undue attention. Like a bandage, will have to be changed with some regularity, or it'll get dirty.
Sign ups:
#6: Hand jewelry
What it is: Jewelry that is placed over the hand to hide the anchor.
Results: Will work in fancy situations where jewelry is expected. Must be bulky enough to hide the shard, and tight enough to keep the edges from glowing.
